Ess1101 Reflection
Last year I wrote a mid-term reflection for my ENC1101 class, and it was a summary of how I didn’t take writing serious. However, I had improved as the semester progressed. In ENC1102 I wrote my first essay, and I received my first C on a paper, and it bothers me. I know I could’ve done way better. All the grammatical errors I exhibiting weren’t intentional, and it could be solved through the reading of my paper out loud. My issues within my paper in regards to my arguments are not a great issue, but I do not incorporate enough evidence to support my claims, hence making my argument diminish in strength. With my second paper, I tried to incorporate more quotes and evidence into paper. I also have tried to include information that was not discussed

ENC2210’s main objective is to introduce students to technical and professional writing. This class will teach me how to communicate professionally in different scenarios. According to the course description, ENC2210 will teach me how to properly write emails, letters, resumes, memos, reports, proposals, technical descriptions, technical definitions, and technical manuals.…

As a student that learns English as a second language, I went to ESL 263, and I have improved my English skills so that I could be ready to take ESL 273. The first standard I demonstrated was standard one. Standard one is supporting instructional opportunities. I have used my knowledge of basic writing and writing readiness. In Mrs. Hettinger’s class, I assisted a student on his spelling packet. The student had to write the spelling words in alphabetical order. I went through each letter of the alphabet and asked him if there were any words that started with that letter. Some of the words began with the same letter, so we had to look at the letters that came next. The student was able to write all of the spelling words in alphabetical order, he just needed some guidance.…

Finally, when I got my grade on the paper I was overjoyed with happiness. I immediately went to the gym after class and worked out. The feeling of immortality was overthrown by the last paper announced, the Late-Midterm Exam. This paper was an easy “A”, but it also felt like an easy “F”. The letter grade received was an “A”, but I actually thought I was going to get a worst grade. The questions were easy but slightly challenging. I had to use the internet to assistance me with my paper because the fear of lacking information haunted me. Overall the essays were written this semester progressively improved due to the help of my professor and the writing lab. Journals were difficult to do in the beginning of the semester, but over time I started to enjoy writing. Each journal was different and unique in their own way. I successful reached each word count for the journals and I was surprised. Around 3,000 words in 4-5 weeks was absolutely amazing. I underestimated myself on how good and consistent I was at writing. The grade received on my journals is maybe an “A”.I would be ecstatic if that was the grade, though. I attendance class almost every day to write a new and interesting…

Our first essay of Freshman Composition was to write a narrative about something that impacted our lives. I didn’t really know what to expect from this assignment. I knew I could write about my car wreck and give precise details about every little moment. When I started writing, I created a mind map to organize all the details. However, I was worried about my writing skills. I didn’t know what my instructor was expecting from me in this paper. I have never been a strong writer and that really concerned me when it came time to receive a grade. When I turned in the assignment I knew I had a strong detailed and easy to imagine story. However, I knew I was weak with my word choices and grammar. Grammar is the biggest thing that drags me down when I write papers for important classes even though I know my information. Because I knew that before going to write this paper, I looked for resources to help me. I found a website that points out your grammar and spelling mistakes for free. I know you can’t rely on the internet so I would read over it on different days to see if I found something new to correct. This helped in the end because I got a good grade on the paper and did well on grammar.…

I gathered the information that was available from many websites and a few books. At this point I felt confident in my ability to research any topic with the available resources, and after two weeks of writing facts on flash cards I wrote my outline which was not a challenge. For me it seemed that as I progressed things became easier. Then shortly after I started writing my research paper and using the outline I wrote and the information I collected to write my paper. The following week I turned in my rough draft and my paper had tons of errors in it but luckily for me they were minor grammatical and punctuation error and after correcting them I was ready to turn in my research paper. While writing my paper I realized that I wasn’t a crummy writer but my problems I faced in my learning experience came from a lack of confidence in myself. When I got my paper back after the teacher graded it she told me that I was an excellent writer and I should believe in myself more, and as a added bonus I received an “A” on my research paper. I was so excited because I achieved what I had accomplished my goal of making a good grade and facing my inner fears of…

Since the beginning of my education, writing essays and papers has been really interesting and fun for me, until some teachers brought me down or critiqued my work in a really harsh and tough way. For example, there was this time, when I was a freshman during high school, in which we needed to do an essay involving our activities during the weekend and the hobbies that I used to do. So I wrote down about sports, music and other activities, I was really excited about it and I actually thought that I did really well, until I got my paper back, and discovered that my grade was a C. Getting a C in my paper really made me feel kind of bad and down, but I talked to the teachers about it and he gave me some extra credit assignments that involved some extra papers and essays that had a lot to do with my experiences during school, and bullying, but hey at least I learned and practiced more about essays, and I did them, and I got a C, and then a B because my writing skills improved a little.…

From the first paper that I wrote, some errors still hold true about my writing. My punctuation still is not at the level that I would like it to be. Though I feel some improvements have been made, I continue to misplace commas leading to fragments and comma splices. Secondly, correctly choosing word choices still plays a role in my writing as well. I continuously use poor judgement in words such as thing, you, gotten, that’s, I'm, and but. Lastly, Just like the paper before this one, thinking about how to start the essay. However, with lately improving, started a paper and thinking about what to say still is a…

Writing is always difficult and takes a long time, this is my first impression about any writing class. Not only because of its techniques, but also the language was a big obstacle. I don’t see myself as a good writer and writing for me is just a required task I have to get it done. I moved to the United States three years ago. I have taken English as a first foreign language in my Egyptian school beside Arabic --my native language--. When I moved here and started school, I placed in an ESL class for a quarter and then moved to regular English classes after that. When I start the writing courses here at UCI, I wasn’t happy about my placement. After, I was taking a regular English classes in high school, I placed in AC English 20C/D. I wished that I had gotten placed in a more advanced writing course. But after finishing these academic courses, I can admit that my enrollment was not a waste and it was the right choice. During these courses, I have improved in many different areas. Doing the essay in three drafts required me to go over and reconsider my essay…

We'd just finished reading the Great Gatsby and it was time to receive our essays prompts. I was nervous because many concepts I simply could not grasp within the book. Everyone had the same feedback; I was either missing the bigger picture or not going into depth sufficiently. I soon went from deleting sentences to getting rid of whole paragraphs. My inability to make progress on this assignment discouraged me to the point where I stopped asking for assistance. I got online and searched general ideas and compared my writing to ensure what I had in my essay was correct. I saw similar things through various essays that complimented mine, which encouraged me to continue writing. I was very confident in turning in my essay. My teacher graded them quickly and I knew I would do well on it. She looked at me and handed me the packet of six pages with an oversized "0"…

In all of my English courses, I believe that I have struggled the most in my writing compositions. For example, my earliest memory of my composing frustration was when I was in sixth grade. My teacher, Ms. Boineau, told us we could write our first paper on anything, I decided to write a long, complex football story that was roughly three pages long. When we had to peer review, I was paired up with the class bully. He wrote a paper entitled, “ I like dogs.” I remember his opening sentences vividly, “I like dogs; Dogs are nice; Dogs are good.” When I read his paper, I thought my essay was a masterpiece in comparison. A few days later, we received back the grades for our papers. I received a grade of 81 in comparison to “I like dogs” which received…

I selected WRTG 101 because it was a required class towards my undergraduate degree. This is a class that I should have taken earlier in my pursuit of my degree; it would have been extremely beneficial to me with my writing assignments for other classes. Being a student of WRTG 101 employs me to use my critical thinking skills in conjunction to my writing skills. Prior to taking this class, I thought that my writing skills were above average; however this class has provided instruction and feedback that I needed improvement in several areas.…

Review the grading criteria. Many students think of the criteria as a barrier to overcome. The smart ones, however, think of grading criteria as a clear road map guiding them to the variety of form, substance and style of essay desired. Your school should provide a clear statement of grading criteria. Request a copy, take it home and study it. Discuss it with parents, teachers and fellow students to be sure that you understand what that road map actually says.…

On 5th March 2012 till 9th March 2012, all PISMP students were instructed to have a week of experiences in school for School Based Experiment program (SBE). Based on the task given, we need to observe and do some research on the school one had selected. As for me, I selected Sekolah Kebangsaan Paya Jakas due to its location which is near to my hometown for my SBE. We had to informed about the school chosen to the institute a month before the program started so that the institute can send early information to the school selected about our presence for the program.…
