Esprit de Corps
Esprit de Corps is a French phrase that was founded in 1780. The meaning of Esprit de Corps, philosophically, is that the common spirit existing in the members of a group and inspiring enthusiasm, devotion, and strong regard for the honor of the group (merriam-webster). A prime example of this would be the Marines, “never leave a fellow marine”. Their main slogan is “Semper Fi” which means “always faithful”. In a business sense, it can be seen as a value of morale. When addressing the term Esprit de Corps in a business matter, the keyword is “teamwork”. Members of a team want to succeed because they are driven not only by their other teammates, but their bosses as well. A manager wants to makes sure that he or her has a strong team and that they are happy before you start serving customers. When you have a strong and satisfied team who works together, it will lead to a positive feedback from your customers. You cannot let egos get ahold of a team. It is about everyone having his or her own objective. Esprit de Corps is about going through a challenge, coming up with a solution, and operating an experiment (smart business). These three steps are not done alone, but together as a cooperating team. Where one person may fall weak in some criteria’s, there will be another person who has that strength and vice-a-versa. It is like what Babe Ruth once said; “It is hard to beat a person who never gives up” (Ruth, goodreads.com). When there is more than one person striving for a goal, a fearless team, they will be able to go above and beyond that goal, as long as they work together.

Leaders are motivators. In 1986 the Mets won 108 out of 162 games and the World Series although they were destined to fail. “’Thank God,’ says Hearn ‘for Mex’” (Pearlman 1). ‘Mex’ was Keith Hernandez, a veteran first baseman who had one World Series title under his belt. “Hernandez was the guy who paced the dugout while screaming at rival pitchers; it was Hernandez who advised Met relief pitchers about why the outside fastball would work better than the inside slider, and who set the ever important (yet oft-absent) positive tone.” (Pearlman 1) When you have a player, who never gives up, and is always pushing others, it makes their teammates want to win and play harder. In 2011 the Florida gators made it to the sweet 16 in the NCAA after having a few years of hard times. Chandler Parsons have played through it all. He was a key player in the team gaining their mojo back. His coach gave him the option to leave, or buy in. “He stayed and worked and got better. He got quicker and stronger and eliminated his…
