ENTREPRENEURIAL RESEARCH PAPER: Page 3
Failure Introduction: The business I am writing about is been in the news recently due to a few closures of some of their restaurants. Perkins & Marie Callender’s Inc., has recently closed some of their restaurants in the Florida and surrounding areas. The reason for this closure is due too the fact that the economy has been very unstable for a while, and the company has too cut back on some of their restaurants in order to keep a majority of their restaurants open to the public. These restaurants are considered sit down family orientated restaurants that are tailored to family meals and they even have express service for take out orders. They are considered a very reasonably priced restaurant that can fit into many family budgets for an out on the town dinner for a family. The atmosphere of this restaurant is considered a family oriented style and is very friendly and outgoing in their service to the public. Their competitors were other restaurants like McDonalds, Applebee, Texas Roadhouse, Cracker Barrel, and other family oriented restaurants. There were many restaurants that are considered to be their competitors, but in reality Perkins was a generally family oriented restaurant, with a friendly atmosphere and very reasonably priced, unlike Applebee who’s prices are more expensive, and their serviced and their atmosphere are not very friendly or family

Issues such as lack of proper education, dead-end minimum wage jobs, unsanitary living conditions, and unfair labor practices can have a detrimental impact on the health condition of individuals in a community. Newcomers or recent immigrants in Canada do not always get the job that they desire and many end up doing odd jobs barely able to meet basic needs. In that case proper health and wellness would become the least of their priorities. As society and as a nation we must strive to correct all the inequities such as job opportunities, access to affordable high-quality education, and overall activities and programs that help integrate immigrants into mainstream Canadian society.…

After ordering our meals we enjoyed the lively upbeat music of the restaurant. The friendly staff smiled as they passed by our table. Tom refilled our drinks without hesitation. Our meals arrived at our table the food was at perfect tempature and portions were appealing. The food was not salty and was perfect to taste. Tom made sure we had all the condiments needed for our meals and returned to make sure we were satisfied. Our drinks continued to be refilled throughout our meal. Today’s technology is advancing at an unprecedented rate. However, as tech focused companies continue to profit and expand, their emphasis on innovation for the masses diminishes. Manufacturers are expected to release one or more new flagship products every year, in turn implicating an incentive to place aside supporting older generations in favor of quarterly profits. Planned obsolescence is the idea of a consumer product being purposely made with the intent of being replaced and becoming obsolete. Ultimately, my question would be whether planned obsolescence is a necessary step in the advancement of technology.…

All my life I have searched for outdoor profession involving human remains and settlements that could satisfy my curiosity. Then, I met a person that is so dedicated to such a profession that I had no knowledge about. As to knowing her since I have been under her wing for two years, I could say that she is a very skillful person in the field of archaeology. Her name is Jolie Liston, from Texas, a 7th generation Texan. All her life since age 23, has been doing archaeology because she loved doing outside work. Now age 53 and has achieved her Ph.D. on this type of field (Liston2/7/13,Liston2/12/13). With the 2 years of work and training with her, I finally made a hard decision because I had two choices, be in the military or outdoor profession which I wanted. With all her lectures and teachings about archaeological dig and investigating past histories, my interest grew more and captured me right there. I would say that Jolie is nothing compared to others out there. There are great accomplishments that she accomplished in Palau before she left the island. All based on her discoveries on field were publicized and taught to the people, also helped with preserving some of the very old cultural sites. With the archaeology skill she possesses, I have been inspired to walk the same path and start out by going to higher education to pursue a future field goal.…

The entrepreneur that I choose to interview was Arun Jagatheesan, who is the CEO of CurbZero. CurbZero is the brainchild of Arun that started in December 2016. He arrived at the idea from working in his previous startup (hotel/customer experience app) that was not successful. Incidentally, India, is where the lure of entrepreneurship first took a hold of Arun. He witnessed his grandfather build a small fortune in the the 5th grade through his numerous businesses. Namely, the sugar, rice and aluminum processing business. With that being the case, he was first drawn to Silicon Valley in the late 90’s while studying computer science in India. He wanted to further his studies in the computer science industry with a specific focus on fashion or…

An important aspect of SMEs, especially for the young SMEs, is their survival rate, according to Haugh and McKee(2000), survival means continue to exist in the future. Although we have seen a large increase in new company formations and higher levels of their survival rates than the past, we cannot neglect the fact that the rate of failure of these SMEs is also very high. Some of the firms fail in their infancy stage and some fail within several years after start-up. Some statistics suggest that the failure rate of SMEs in their first five years is more than 50% (Reiss, 2006). There are many reasons that contribute to SMEs’ failure: insufficient capital, poor management skills, poor human resources, lack of innovations and so on.…
