Descriptive essay topics are those that explain or outline processes involved in getting something done. As the word, descriptive suggests, they describe. Descriptive essay topics also touch on how something either happened or came to be. These topics should be laid out in such a way that they give a visual impression of the object being described or the notion in question. They may be used to reflect an action of the way a certain thing works, its motion or even be used to describe certain people or things. While choosing this kind of a topic, please make sure that you settle on something that people will really want to spend their time on reading. Consider this topic as bait that will draw the reader’s mind into wanting more of the essay’s contents.  Give an account of a normal day in your life.

 Describe one of the most important things in your life. .  Describe the effects of drinking alcohol.
 Describe your perfect day.
 Make up your own scene and fill it with random objects. Describe the scene and the objects.  Give a description of a typical school day.
 Describe what would happen if you travelled backwards in time.  You leave Earth for 1,000 years. Describe what it could be like when you get back.  You are in school when a large earthquake hits. Describe what happens.  Describe what qualities make up a good person.

To get good marks for a descriptive essay, you need to use techniques to add emphasis and impact to what you are saying. The most important thing however, is to be accurate and detailed with your descriptions, never forgetting to describe what the examiner would think is most important in terms of the topic you are trying to describe. Be diverse when describing your surroundings, and try to always include the senses of sight, hearing, touch and smell.
