When I found out I was taking an English-098 class I wasn’t surprised. English and writing has always been my worst subjects. I was excited to take the class. I wanted to be able to write on a college level. I didn’t want to just be passed on if I wasn’t ready and I knew wasn’t ready. On the first day I learned something new. I liked the teaching style of the professor. She explained it in a way which I understand and really learned. The professor was full of knowledge. She was funny and nice. She did get stern at times when she had too. I can tell she really enjoyed teaching. The class was fun. The students were all nice and intelligent. They were all talkative and engaged in discussions. I felt like the class was a no judge zone. No one was making fun of people and everyone could share their opinions. The class was much more enjoyable than I expected. I learned many new things. I learned about sentence fragments. I didn’t know anything about improper sentences or independent clauses. I learned how to make an improper sentence to a proper one. I learned about where to put commas and grammar that I need to know to become a better writer. I learned the proper way to do research. I use to just copy and paste everything from the internet to my paper, now I learned how to get a trusted source and get information that way. I believe my writing has improved tremendously over the past three months. I know what a proper sentence is now. I know where to put commas. I also know how to organize my thoughts before I write. I learned a lot of techniques to help me become a better writer. I learned a lot of important information from my English-098 class. The skills I learned did help me become a better writer. In the beginning of the class Professor Vinci had the class write two things they wanted to improve at the end of the semester. I put down I wanted a stronger vocabulary and I wanted to learn grammar skills. And I feel

My years at USC Aiken was an incredible experience. I met many people with great personalities. More importantly, I am grateful for the academic skills that I received from my classes. My writing was not terrible in some aspects, but I knew that it needed to be improved upon. I lacked the experience because writing was not something that I did on a daily basis. As I progressed through English 1302, I realized that I was developing new skills that begun to transform the way I wrote. Nursing has been given the idea that a lot of writing is not needed after nursing school, but that assumption is incorrect. Nurses have a lot of daily task, many of them need good writing and comprehension skills which can be developed in English 101 and English 102 classes. Core classes in general will help and the foundations that are taught in those two classes can help make one successful in any career, nursing included. Nursing needs writing in these tasks: creating a daily plan for the patient, writing prescriptions (depending on which position of a nurse), creating a plan for the patient after being discharged, and for communication through emails. With the help received in English 101 and the help I will be receiving in English 102…

Through class lesson I have learned new things from my classmates, from newspapers and from my teachers. I have learned that we as a nation are too quick to believe when something is right or wrong without taking the accounts into consideration. With this, I have learned to question the details and being more involved to avoid blindly answering. My classmates have taught me that we can all help each other improve. I have examined students in the Wight Foundation helping one another out so we can all excel. There is always room for growth even when you think you are your…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

My former English professor would always say “find a way 101”, whenever a student found themselves struggling in her class. At first I did not understand why she was so rude to her students, this was until after I graduated high school when I realized I was wrong. She was not rude, she was not mean, she was preparing her students for college level English classes. Reflecting on my past encounter with the toughest teacher at my former high school, I can say I feel prepared for a college level class. Although I may have taken the most rigorous class in high school, that does not mean I am expected to pass without falling short. However, I am certain that I am ready for the challenges that my professor will assign me in the fall.…

Completing english 110 again is somewhat difficult, the last time that I sat in a class room learning how to write the perfect essay was 2000. I did not realize all the material that I had forgotten in that sixteen year period. I am happy that I enrolled in English 110, it did help improve my writing. I know my writing was weak initially, it has improved with this class but there is still along way to go for me to become a better writer, like my dad use to say “there is always room for improvement.” I did learn the proper structure for the narrative, descriptive and compare and contrast essays, along with developing a good thesis for those essays. One area that I saw improve, was the “verbs to avoid.” I did not realize how often I used…

As my English 101 class comes to an end there are many valuable lessons we learned in this class. We learned how to respond to the author. We learned how to write in the They Say/I Say style, which I plan on using this style to write in most of my papers from now on. Another lesson we learned in this class was how to create a thesis with tension. The lessons I learned in English 101 will most likely be used again as I progress on with English 102 as well as the rest of my college career.…
