English Course Reflection
I have chosen AP Literature and Composition as my next English course because I consider it to be a challenge and I expect myself to overcome it. I was recommended into this class by Ms.Dunlap after I completed 11th Grade Honors English so I decided to let it play out; to get the experience for the class. I tell myself to never give in even when the going gets rough. Another reason I have decided to take this course is because of the impact it has on your transcript. It is Advanced Placement so I like to think of it as an introductory class that will reveal what is expected of a student in an English college course. From this course, I hope to learn how to analyze works of fiction and interpret them using my own understanding. It will …show more content…
My personal goal for this class is to receive a minimum grade of 80% or a B. English isn't my best subject, but I hope what I learn in this class will help me appreciate literature more than before. To achieve my goal, I will need to study and give my full effort. You only get out what you put in, to me this means I need to put in 100% of what I can and only then I'll achieve excellence. One of my weakest points in English is reading. I've never been fond of reading; reading has always been my lowest score on the ACT. I will have trouble with reading but I hope after this course is finished, I can look at literature in another way rather than seeing it as a bunch of random words on a page of a novel. Another problem I will encounter is my access to a computer out of school. I'm not gifted with having a computer at my house, so I will have to be responsible and use my time wisely. I'll have to work on my assignments in the library on my own time and study independently for a certain amount of hours out of class. As my teacher, I expect you to give me personal help whenever I have a question, or am in need of your assistance. It'll be hard because of the other students that occupy your class, but if I'm really unsure or confused on a topic, I am sure to let you know through email or during a

In Rhetoric and Composition I, I have some thoughts and concerns. My aspirations for this course is to both better my writing and rhetorical analysis while reading. My goal for this course is to better my writing and my vocabulary. As for my concerns, I fear that I will not make the page limit for assignments. Hopefully, I will have enough to write about that this will not be a problem, but it is defiantly a concern.…

A student is required to complete at least one of these courses every year, regardless if they already meet the requirements to graduate. While these classes are necessary for the first two or three years of high school, should they continue to remain so throughout the rest of a student’s education? The last year or two of high school should be devoted to developing a student’s interests. If a student aspires to become an author, editor, or literature professor, then English, literature, and creative writing would be their focus.…

This course truly helped my comprehension of specific parts of writing that I had never caught on to before. I feel that I can now express my thoughts much more successfully. In the future, my essay papers will be far more grounded because of the new composition methodologies or strategies learned here. I am more confident about writing effectively in future college classes after taking this class. I’ve learned to use different words, phrases, or statements to use other times that will best suit my style of writing. Nursing has been given the idea that a lot of writing is not needed after nursing school, but that assumption is incorrect. Nurses have a lot of daily task, many of them need good writing and comprehension skills which can be developed in English 101 and English 102 classes. Core classes in general will help and the foundations that are taught in those two classes can help make one successful in any career, nursing included. Nursing needs writing in these tasks: creating a daily plan for the patient, writing prescriptions (depending on which position of a nurse), creating a plan for the patient after being discharged, and for communication through emails. With the help received in English 101 and the help I will be receiving in English 102…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

My former English professor would always say “find a way 101”, whenever a student found themselves struggling in her class. At first I did not understand why she was so rude to her students, this was until after I graduated high school when I realized I was wrong. She was not rude, she was not mean, she was preparing her students for college level English classes. Reflecting on my past encounter with the toughest teacher at my former high school, I can say I feel prepared for a college level class. Although I may have taken the most rigorous class in high school, that does not mean I am expected to pass without falling short. However, I am certain that I am ready for the challenges that my professor will assign me in the fall.…

July 1993, Lexington, Kentucky. A woman gives birth to a beautiful baby girl with seven holes in her heart; thus began 19 years of visits to an esteemed cardiologist. Extremely worried, her parents inquired regarding their daughter's future, alleviating their worries, the doctor's advice to them was to be diligent and "treat her as you would a normal child." Knowing I have been different did not stop me from participating fully in life, especially during my childhood. In December 2012, we received the wonderful news that the final hole had closed. The odds were in my favor since I have been lucky to have never needed surgery, nor required hospital care from a critical injury. I believe that there is a reason I exist on this earth; and my blueprint…
