English Class Reflection Paper
Susie Vickery
English 104

Reflection Paper It’s hard to believe that my amazing journey in English 104 is coming to an end. The journey has been so much more enjoyable than I initially expected. I have tried to avoid taking English 104 numerous times because reading and writing have not been my strong points. Each time I attempted to take this course, I dropped it due to a particular instructor style, or a boring set of literary materials. This time around was different, as I set my goal to obtain my bachelor degree in Business Administration by the end of this summer. Therefore, I was determined to force my way through this class no matter what challenges I had to endure. To my pleasant surprise, this class was much better than the others. I felt the information and learning come much easier. I enjoyed the class materials and the professor did a very good job responding in earnest to my submissions. Because of the much better experience, I truly believe I have become a better writer and a better critical thinker. Through the discussion board and the professor‘s guidance of our writing assignments, I have improved my analytical skills as well as developed a greater organizational skills. The discussion board was an important tool in developing my understanding of different aspects of the literature reviewed in this course. This new discussion format allowed me to read other students contributions on the same topic, as well as Professor Duclos-Yourdon’s direct and prompts for a deeper analysis. For example, in week five discussion three, we discussed Sister James‘ character, as I said “Father Flynn offers reasonable explanation about the situation and his involvement with Donald and Sister James’ doubt is appeased. This shows that Sister James is easily persuaded and has no eager to actively seek the truth on her own”(Vickery DB) Following my thread, Kimberly raised a very interesting question by adding, “who is the real criminal in this play Is it Father

Before arriving on my first day of instruction, I believed that my argumentation skills were at a reasonable level and as a result I was not going to learn an abundance in English 2, critical thinking and writing. However, this was not the case. I quickly realized that the pathos, ethos and logos of which was introduced to me in high school, had long lost their meaning and subsequently found myself in the deep end of the swimming pool, once again. With that being said, through learning these concepts, planning for the subsequent tasks and writing the assigned essays, I acquired a substantial amount of knowledge which is widely applicable.…

What is death penalty? Death penalty is when a state or the government issues the punishment of execution to some one who has committed a crime. It has always been one of the most highly debated issues in the United States. Many Americans are against the capital punishment or commonly knows as the death penalty because they fear its too expensive or there are religious reasons to oppose the death penalty or some other reasons. But my point of view is just like the bible and what it says "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" meaning if you killed some body you ought to be killed also. Most people aren't worried about the life after committing crimes because they know that the laws aren't strict enough to make them to stop committing crimes. To these people, laws don't hold them back from doing what they want to do. Capital punishment is mainly used for murderers and other serious criminals dangerous to our society. People who oppose the capital punishment clearly don't feel the pain and the trouble the victims and their families has gone through. So, is capital punishment necessary? Yes, capital punishment deters crime and gives closure to families of the victim.…

The article “Don’t Mourn Brown V. Board of Education” by Juan Williams discusses that it is now time for something greater in effect than what the Brown V. Board of Education can offer us today. Brown V. Board had a huge part in civil rights movement and got Americans to think about inequality in society and in education. Assimilating students does not insure that students that are black or Hispanics will not drop out high school nor does it guarantee the narrowing of performance levels. In fact schools have become more segregated while the nation has become more diverse. Schools continued to fail even with Brown V. Board of Education was enforced. The parents began to become dissatisfied with their children being pulled out of neighborhood schools and instead being bussed to different schools further away. The Supreme Court realized that using school children to address segregation in school was not going to fix segregation in society. Busing students began to be replaced with magnet school and charter schools and eventually the Supreme Court began to believe that the fourteenth amendment was better served by treating children as individuals rather than as tools to enforce segregation.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

One class has really stood out to me and my grade proves it. This professor is helping to show me many different ways I can succeed here at Austin Peay State University. Thus far she has shown me several different ways to help improve my studying skills. The option of joining a study group is the best option I have made. I have joined a study group for my art class. In the beginning I was not doing so well, and then I caught drift of a study group that was being formed and I signed up. A few strengths that I have brought to my study group is that I record each of the lectures so that we can listen to certain parts. When we have the ability to re-listen to the lecture it helps us get a better understanding of what was being taught. I got this grade saving idea from my APSU 1000 instructor, Mrs. Bonnie Hodge, who suggested that we ask our instructors if we are allowed to record their lectures. My next highest grade is a two-way tie between my Art and Psychology class, both ranking in at a B. I have the opportunity to record both of their lectures, and I do so every day. Having the ability to listen to lectures at home has a huge improvement on my grades, because it allows me to listen for important information that I may have accidently missed during class. I feel that I can do better in all of these classes if I spend about another hour per week studying for each class. It is very important to me that I make the best grades possible, because I would like to be accepted into the Nursing Program. This program is very competitive because they only accept about 50 students per year. In order to be accepted into this program I must bring up my English grade to at least a B, which is satisfying to me. English is a subject that I have always struggled with throughout high school. I try to study to the best of my ability and I do well on the test, it’s just writing papers that get me. The only thing I can do is study on how to make my papers flow…

Taking Engeeineer class 101, made me look at my flaws and helped me fix them by building on the flaws with new knowledge that i learned in this class. In light of that, the book we were reading "Title" really gave me an understanding where I was and where I needed to be in my live. In class though, the group mini-projects made me really understand time is very pericous and working as group is very important. The reason for this, is becuase the people you are working are the ones you can build a relationship with and later on will help you through your college years. With time manangment, the class made me understand if you waste your time, you will not be going anywhere in your live. As a person now, time is very valuble to me, that is why…

July 1993, Lexington, Kentucky. A woman gives birth to a beautiful baby girl with seven holes in her heart; thus began 19 years of visits to an esteemed cardiologist. Extremely worried, her parents inquired regarding their daughter's future, alleviating their worries, the doctor's advice to them was to be diligent and "treat her as you would a normal child." Knowing I have been different did not stop me from participating fully in life, especially during my childhood. In December 2012, we received the wonderful news that the final hole had closed. The odds were in my favor since I have been lucky to have never needed surgery, nor required hospital care from a critical injury. I believe that there is a reason I exist on this earth; and my blueprint…
