ENGLISH SPEECH RATIONALE:
The situation of my speech came up from the book that I read ‘The Last Lecture’ which is based on a speech delivered by Randy Pausch addressing a group of adults titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams’ a few months before his death. This gave me the inspiration to write and address a speech as a renowned philosopher who fought cancer to all the students of Howard University. These brilliant students are putting in all their efforts and are working tirelessly into becoming capable of making a good amount of money. Their aspiration is to have a luxurious life and to afford or meet all their demands and desires. However, they do not realize that there is more to life than just mechanical routine and materialistic happiness. The purpose of this speech is to make these young adults realize the purpose of life, the way to life live, living ones dream, true happiness and the power of perseverance. This speech is also inspired by the commencement speech of J.K. Rowling to a group of graduate wherein humor, reference to personal experience and change in expression are the tools used to communicate an impactful message. That speech of hers created a huge impact on the thoughts of the audience. Some of these aspects such as syntax will be seen in this speech of mine. The use of powerful quotes and phrases, positive diction as well as analogies will also be incorporated in the speech of mine as done in Randy Pausch’s speech making it so inspiring and remarkable. According to me, speech is one form of expression wherein the speaker can actually relate to the people, involve the audience, maintain eye contact with them and manipulate their thoughts by the use of appropriate diction, tone and expressions. It is one of the most influential and persuasive form of expression.

The speech I chose was on September 9, 1997 from Queen Elizabeth II after Princess Diana’s death . The speech was more of an informal speech of her willingness to open herself up to the people of England during this great tragedy. The speech was effective in giving the queen a chance to show her compassion during the mourning of Princess Diana and this softened her image to the British people. The speech was something the public would not have been familiar with. The British thought Queen Elizabeth had an estranged relationship with the princess. I didn’t see any research in this speech. I do believe it was pressure that drove the queen to a public speech.…

Throughout the book Speak Melinda had many topics in each of her many passages. These passages help us find out what type of a person Melinda is and what her character is all about. The entire book is narrated by Melinda. In the beginning we find out that she busted a party by calling the cops during the summer right before high school. Everyone thought she was a rat. Little do we know is that she never spoken up that at the party Andy Evans raped Melinda. During her freshman year nobody likes her and she had no friends. We do not understand anything until half way through the book which makes this book a mystery. Each of the passages reveal something and we find more and more out about Melinda as the book goes on. Some passages were more important than others. I believe that the most important passage in Speak is “Giving Thanks”. I believe that “Giving Thanks” is the most important passage in the book because we find many things out about Melinda and her family’s relationship. In the beginning of the passage Melinda says how her mother is going to work as usual and that her father was going to order pizza, for Thanksgiving. She wakes up the next morning and noticed that her mother didn’t leave yet and her mother was making a Thanksgiving meal. Unfortunately things had gone wrong and they had to get rid of the turkey. Her father tried making soup which was awful apparently. At the end of the passage Melinda was correct; they were going to order a pizza. And that was what they did. The writer tries to explain in this passage is that Melinda and her parents do not have the greatest relationship and this passage reveals a lot that her life in ways is predictable. I chose this passage because it was interesting to me that Melinda had predicted the whole day which didn’t even happen yet. She ended up having pizza on Thanksgiving which isn’t the greatest thing to eat on Thanksgiving. This passage was very ironic since Thanksgiving is about giving thanks. In ways this…

In Luhrmann’s film, set in the 20th century, the costuming, decorations and lighting are flamboyant and colourful, giving a lively and entertaining feel to the party; Romeo is dressed symbolically as a knight in shining armour to show that he will rescue Juliet. Luhrmann uses this to emphasise Romeo’s youth and enthusiasm. Juliet is represented as an angel in white to show her purity and to foreshadow her imminent death. Paris is dressed as an astronaut to show that he is out of this world and too good to be true. Mercutio cross-dresses as a woman being both man and women representing that he is not on either side of the feud. Tybalt is all fired up dressed as the devil with horns to portray the hatred he feels…

-They should be labeled as transactional because just like in a store transaction you give someone something and you receive things in return from them. As the speaker you send them a message and receive nonverbal and sometimes verbal feedback in return. It does mean something to my classroom speeches. By giving my own speeches the feedback I receive will help me in future speeches and public speaking opportunities. It will also help my fellow classmates because it might show them things not to do and things to improve on.…

A speech provides a suitable form for a personal exploration of these ideas, with the aim of encouraging the audience to question who they are, what they base their opinion of others on, and where they belong in the world. The speech has been written from a young adults point of view, allowing the students to further connect with the speaker, and what they are saying. The incorporation of informal language and colloquialisms has allowed the speech to come across as personal, and yet at the same time touching those listening. The informal language connects to the disengaged students who have been made to attend the talk, and allows all students to be able to listen and take in what is being said.…

Hello, the topic I have chosen to talk to all of you about today is not only appealing but also particularly relevant to all of us in the room. The term ‘Child Abuse’ may seem straightforward to everyone here, but it isn’t so clear-cut, there are many other ‘sub-topics’ which branch out of child abuse like for example: Bullying and Child Neglection. It is often overlooked and taken as a joke by many people and communities, and this isn’t right at all – the abuse of children is an extremely solemn and serious topic… Child abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child or of children; and it is important for all of us to recognize the dangers, causes and effects of this unpleasant experience … because the miserable truth is that we have no insight into our futures … Who knows? Any one of us could be experiencing this cruelty now or may know people who are in this situation later on in their lives ……
