The instructor said, Go home and write a page tonight.
And let that page come out of you—
Then, it will be true.

How to know what the future holds for me?
What will I be in life…?
Well I am just a sixteen year old guy who loves to play soccer,
Born in El Salvador,
A soft more at Miguel Contreras,
But most importantly a guy who dreams big. perhaps I should keep quiet, and not tell anyone my dreams, cause if no one knows my dreams, then they can’t shoot them down.

For the past six-teen years people have entered and left my life,
Regardless if it has been my fault or the other persons fault,
I believe everything happens for a reason,
And if I meet someone, it will either be a lesson or blessing.
I have learned to not blame anyone for my mistakes, other than myself.

I live a happy life.
Spend a lot of quality time with my family and friends, play soccer every day, work hard every day, to get better.
I like to stay after school to talk and bond with my friends.

Soccer is my passion.
But studying is an obligation,
As an immigrant student I have felt in the past as if the struggles are too much,
But my mother always told me, there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.
And the differed act has been that light for me.
There are two door in my life which I hope they both open,
I know life is not always fair, but I know I will be successful
So if I won’t be able to live my life playing soccer for a living,
I know I’ll have a bright future if I keep studying hard.
So please don’t judge me before you get to know me.

Ron Finely, an artist and designer who is from south Los Angeles, claimed that everyone should have access to healthy food through a video named Ron Finely: A guerilla gardener in South Central LA. For this purpose, he suggests people should plant their own food, and let children know the joy, the pride and the honor in growing their food. He wanted an environment revolution and a big change of food issues. Ron Finely claimed that America is a super and developed country but there are still a huge number of people who are not able to maintain their basic living. Other developing countries would have more people who face the same situation. It is necessary to get a revolution for food all around the world and the environment indeed has a change.…

During my off season from soccer, I plan to be a sports commentator for ESPN or to open up my own personal training business. This will help me to make more money and allow me to continue to work after I retire from professional soccer. I would like to eventually be asked to commentate for the women’s FIFA world cup. If I do not follow through with my main plan because of injury or loss of interest, I would like to go to college solely for a degree in business and sports education. After graduating from college, I would open up a full time personal training business for soccer teams. There I would be able to teach many young players the game of soccer and help them to perfect their…

    Immigrant Challenges

An immigrant faces many challenges in the new country they arrive in. Whether they chose go willingly to another country, or they do so because of necessity, the challenges do not decrease. The first challenge is to fit in and understand how anything works. Things such as the social norms, the expectations, and the civil regulations must be identified and adhered to. There is no one to help you initially, and you are thrust into the deep end with limited resources and limited knowledge. But the one thing that you do have is a drive, a motive. There is a clear reason for the immigrant to have left their country of origin, and a drive to accomplish something. This drive was evident in my parents, who came over from Pakistan under the pressure…

That deeply affected me and I unfortunately let it get to me. I believed I was inadequate so I stopped caring. However, around the beginning of 8th grade, a close aunt told me that it did not matter whether I was undocumented, anything is possible if you really exert yourself for your dreams. She also mentioned that I shouldn’t work hard for others, but for myself, because one day we’ll be alone and there will be no one else to praise us but ourselves. She helped me apply for DACA, and eventually, after a long, anxious process, I was accepted. Soon I started high school, and that’s when I took everything much more seriously. I worked extremely hard for myself now that I was sure I had a future. I set goals, managed my time, organized my classes and praised myself. However, I did feel alone. My parents were still constantly fighting. When they weren’t, my father was always too busy working for us to talk to me, and my mother was always too stressed and irritated to talk. My younger sister would block out the world and keep to herself. I would feel lonely after I finished all of my…

It was a rainy Saturday when we meet up; Sam is sitting in a coffee shop waiting for me, and he was quiet as usual. As an American citizen, I believe is fair to say that all of us are immigrant from foreign countries except the Native American. However, imagine yourself as an immigrant just arrived the states not long ago; there is all kinds of barrier that is waiting for you to solve the moment you arrived. Especially for Sam’s case, things couldn’t be more dramatic as he arrived to the States. In addition, discourse community has realized the issues has become more serious that ever before; many new immigrant students felt left out because language barrier and in particular Sam’s case, even bullying. People say life is all about facing new challenges. In 2008 my life changed for good when I moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic means so much to me. It’s a part of my life, my identity and my race. For me it was the hardest challenge I had to face in my life. I couldn’t believe how that one flight meant so much for my family and I. I was so young coming with my two sisters and my father, leaving my mother and most of my family members behind. Everyday life has gotten more challengeable since that big role that my father and my older sister had to play because of my mother’s absence. It was never an easy process at 10 years old and not speaking the language made it even harder. But everything comes for good, and here I’m now waiting for my next big challenge “college”.…

    My Life As An Immigrant

Jobs are hard to find since many jobs require high school and college diplomas which many immigrants do not have. My grandparents, my uncles and my mom did not know any English, so getting a job was difficult. Who would want to hire non-English speaking immigrants? They had very few options. The only option that they had was housekeeping at motels and hotels which required no or very little English. They spent their days cleaning bathrooms and making beds. They were making minimum wage, but it was better than nothing. They told me how excited they were to see a couple of dollars left by the guests when they went to clean the rooms. Despite the financial circumstances, they always felt grateful and never discouraged. They knew that they had to start somewhere, even if that meant, the very bottom. They felt lucky that, at least, they were free and had jobs. They knew that if they worked hard and saved up, they would eventually have enough money to buy a house and start a better life. My grandparents knew that their children, my uncles and my mom, would have a better future if they studied hard and worked…

I was born and raised in a third-world country: Ethiopia. Even though Ethiopia is mainly known for her poverty and destitution, my life there was not that bad. Since my dad has lived in the USA since long before I arrived, I was able to go to private school in Ethiopia and get a good education. I came to the USA when I was fourteen years old. Nothing was as easy as I thought it would be. New country, new language, new home, new school, new friends: everything was new for me. Being a high school student made it even harder. It is obvious that all teens face typical problems during their high school life, like bullying, peer pressure, teen pregnancy, and boyfriend/girlfriend problems. Well, imagine how hard it is for foreign students to get used to a new country and new school on top of all those problems. It was not easy for me to make new friends, to get used to the new school, and, most importantly, to develop my English. However, those obstacles didn’t stop me from getting outstanding grades in my classes, even the ones that seemed like they might be beyond my level.…

After a twelve-hour work day, rushing home to the kids and to cook supper, is there ever any time to exercise? The benefits of exercise strongly outweigh the reasons to sit on the couch and eat potato chips. Most of our population is not only obese but out of shape. If a person is five feet four inches and two hundred pounds does not mean they are out of shape. They may not be in their average suggested weight, but if their muscle percentage is more than their fat, then they are above most of the population. Muscle weighs more than fat, so gaining muscle means gaining healthy weight. Exercise is addicting and fun, once you see the results, it is hard to stop. Even though we have such busy lives, finding time to make ourselves healthy is important.…
