English 101 A Happy Day Analysis
Happy Day

English 101, a class of contemporary and complete thought driven writing has been quite the experience and a very educational course. There were many papers that we wrote in class that truly racked my brain. I came from an English class were the writing was very structured and extremely analytical. The writing that we did in class was rather different. English 101 was the first writing course that I have taken were the writing is completely up to me, and that was hard. It was hard to the aspect that I didn't know who to write the paper but rather how to structure it. That was my single biggest struggle in the course. I hate to say it, but the particular writing that we did in class didn't really have any impact on any

Vance’s class, I would say MLA was the one of the biggest issues I struggled with when writing a paper. Such an easy fix, but I did not have a teacher who enforced it, so I never learned until moving to The Meadows. However, another thing I learned was difficult was to adapt to each teacher’s idea of a “good paper.” Some teachers thought I did well on certain aspects of writing, where others thought I struggled. An example of this might be that Mr. Long would think my thesis was well written, but Mr. Vance thought it was to vague and lacking description. This could also be because of the grade I was in. In 9th grade, my papers were not set to such a high standard as in 10th grade. What I thought was good in 9th does not work for 10th. This is probably true as well for 11th and 12 grade, even…

Ayaan talks about the concept of Islamic culture. Ayaan identifies gender, money & violence as the main obstacles to the integration of immigrants into Western society. Muslim attitudes on the status of women, education of girls, credit, debt and financial planning weaken people's ability to honor their obligations or avail themselves of opportunity. The argument showcased is that Muslim schools should be banned in western societies because they are breeding grounds for indoctrinating young people to view the west as the infidel. Islam is imbued with violence. Condemning Islam isn’t bigoted, racist or Islamophobic and anyone who says otherwise is a victim of “ridiculous” political correctness.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

The Pursuit of Happyness stars Will Smith as Chris Gardner and shows his struggle as a single father facing homelessness yet striving to create a better life for his family. While it could be described as a Black man’s struggle, the movie manages to leave that as a secondary factor rather than the main source of conflict. Both the generosity and the discrimination he experiences at the hands of whites around him are portrayed, as well as, the reality that poverty has no color boundaries. People of all ethnicities are shown in impoverished scenes: in homeless shelters and food kitchens. His cultural interaction includes Asian Americans as well and depicts the cultural misunderstandings and language barriers experienced between them.…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn.
