Psychology- science of understanding individuals; animals as well as people. It is the scientific study of thought and behavior.

Why study psychology?
-its content is useful to many fields
- its relevant to your life
- adopting a scientific perspective on human behavior helps you develop a curiosity for how behavior works.
-makes you more aware of how people work in general, and how you work

Cognitive psychology is the study of how we:
- perceive information learn and remember acquire and use language solve problems

Developmental psychology explores how thought and behavior change and show stability across the life span ask questions like: how do our reasoning skills or emotional skills change as we age? Does old age bring wisdom?

Behavioral neuroscience study of the links among brain, mind, and behavior

Biological psychology study of the relationship between bodily systems and chemicals and how they influence behavior and thought.

Personality psychology study of what makes people unique and the consistencies in peoples behavior across time and sisuations

Social psychology - study of how living among others influences thought, feeling, and behavior

Clinical psychology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders and the promotion of psychological health.
Some clinical psychologists also conduct research and teach
They work in universities, medical settings, or private practice
Single largest subdiscipline in psychology
