Tangled/ Rapunzel Essay
Stories and films have the same storyline though the film may be presented in different ways. The contrast between the Disney film, Tangled, and the short story, Rapunzel, shows a few elements. For example characters, setting, plot and climax which then changes the meaning between the story and the film. It explains that this young girl has been taken away by an evil witch and kept away from her family, where she is brought up in a faraway tower.
The largest difference between this film and short story is that in the short story no one knew that Rapunzel had magical tears that healed people till the end when the Prince becomes blind. Though in the film it shows that her beautiful long hair is used because of it magical powers. Instead of just having the long hair, the film uses it in to the different ways and problems that happens through the story. Although they both have magical hair and tears they use them in different ways through the story. “This is the story of how I died. But don't worry, this is actually a fun story and the truth is it isn't even mine. This is the story of a girl named Rapunzel, and it starts with the sun. Now, once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell from the heavens. And from this small drop of sun grew a magic, golden flower. It had the ability to heal the sick and injured”. The short story and film is written in 2nd person it changes how the audience feels about the character and storyline.
In the short story Rapunzel is taken by the sorceress and the king and queen knew about it, while in the film Rapunzel gets kidnapped by Mother Gothel and no one knows who she is with. The short story focuses more about how the prince and Rapunzel want to be together, on the other hand the film shows how she wants to see the world and mostly see the lanterns that light up each year on her birthday. “I've been looking out of a window for eighteen years, dreaming about what I might feel like when those lights rise

in that they both show a kids perspective on everyday things. In the Cummings story the kids see the ballonman as a magical creature. It also shows how kids love spring. After being locked up inside all winter they can finally go outside and run around and get dirty and just have fun. In Cisneros story about the magical shoes that there mother had given to them it shows how kids can really grow up too fast. The kids just want to be kids but everyone else is seeing them as grown ups. The girls do not really understand what is going on. And when they get home they just want to get rid of the shoes so they can just be kids again. These two stories are about just being young and doing stuff that kids do. Playing in the mud and dancing about. They are about doing things you can only do as a child. If an adult starting skipping along through puddles people would think he was crazy but if an adult saw a kid doing it they would not have a second thought about it.…

One of the most significant differences between the short story and the movie is the developing of Charlie's character in the story. In the book for example, is nothing said about his family, whereas in the movie is told a lot about his childhood and in the end he also sees his mother. When we see Charlie in the movie identifying himself as lonely, he becomes a more described character than he is in the book. This shows the difference that in a short story we have to develop a character ourselves, but in a movie only throughout one picture of a person we already get a description of this character we would never have got in a short story. In the movie we have seen the information about Charlie we immediately get it supported by information about his family.…

Though the similarities may seem to be over weighed by the differences they are very accurate. The main characters in the story are Beowulf, Grendel, Hrothgar, and Grendel’s mother. These are the same for the movie. Beowulf cuts off Grendel’s arm while he is fighting him in the book. The same goes for the movie, with Beowulf cutting off Grendel’s arm in a fight. The people both in the book and movie celebrated the death of Grendel by drinking, they also hung Grendel’s arm for all to see it. Beowulf kills Grendel and his mother both in the book and movie. These similarities may seem like the only thing needed to compare a story to a movie but you also need to contrast it using the differences.…

There are many differences between the two but there are four main ones that stuck out the most. In the Disney version, Hera is Hercules’ mother, whereas in the original, his mother is a mortal, named Alcmena, making him a demigod (Zeus was his father) which means in the Disney movie he is born a god. In the original he is assigned the twelve tasks as repentance for killing his wife and children. In the Disney film Hercules’s doing the twelve tasks to become a real hero. Another big thing was that in the beginning of the original story, Hera sends two snakes to kill Hercules. In the Disney version Hades sends his two demons two simply kill Hercules but they fail to, so they turn into snakes and try to kill him. The last and biggest difference of all is that in the Disney movie, Hercules has to defeat the Titans whereas the original myth didn’t even talk about them.…

Most Americans could say that they have at least heard of Cinderella and her fairy godmother. In the German Version of Cinderella, “Aschenputtel,” there is no Fairy godmother. In “Aschenputtel,” Cinderella’s mother tells her “Dear child, remain pious and good, and then our dear God will always protect you, and I will look down on you from heaven and be near you." Later in the story Cinderella asks her father to bring home the first twig that brushes his hat. When given the twig Cinderella takes it to her mother’s grave and it grows into a magnificent tree. Cinderella then prays under the tree and pigeons and turtledoves bring Cinderella anything she wishes. These birds represent Cinderella’s mother’s spirit watching over her poor daughter. Animals, such as birds and mice, also appear in the Disney classic, but are more aides then guardians to Cinderella. These animals are introduced as humorous instead of saviors in the Disney version. The animals help her clean the house and do chores. Later on they also are transformed into steeds and drivers to take Cinderella to the ball. These differences give each story its lighter and darker feelings and dynamics affecting the readers’ emotions towards the animals and Cinderella.…
