Engaging Students by Using Smart Boards
Engaging Students by Using SMART Boards

“Television didn’t transform education. Neither will the internet. But it will be another tool for teachers to use in their effort to reach students in the classroom. It will also be a means by which students learn outside the classroom” (Palfrey, John) Technology is a part of our day to day lives, weather we choose to keep up with it or not, it is everywhere we turn. Technology in the classroom is a great way to keep students focused on what is being taught and not being distracted by smart phones, iPods, etc. Having technology in the classroom puts the students at an advantage. Many students already know a lot about technology when a teacher integrates technology into the classroom; they are better their students learning experience. “Excitement in education and student productivity, the ability to get a result that you want from students, goes together and cannot be separated.” (Owens) This is why I believe smart boards are a great way to interact with the students.
Putting technology into the classroom means, teaching basic computer skills and software programs to the students in one class instead of have a separate class. Effective technology integration needs appear state wide to better increase the students learning process in the classroom. Effective technology integration is achieved when the use of technology is used in the class room on a daily basis also when technology supports what your lesson plans. Technology can help teachers make their lessons more engaging and interactive. By giving teachers ways to use technology as a teaching tool, gives the teacher the ability to assess the different ways of learning the students may have. It also enhances the student’s relationship with their teacher. When technology is integrated probably into the classroom, it makes learning more worthwhile to the students. (Edutopia Staff)

For schools and universities, both have experienced many changes with the technology that is available. Instead of students having to go to the library to complete their work, most can now just walk into their classroom filled with new desktops and laptops. With the increase of technology in most schools, it is almost becoming a necessity for classrooms to have up to date technology for students. Students that have been able to work with laptops ever since elementary school get so used to the technology available that most find it just standard in classrooms today. In the classroom it does not stop with the computers, now teachers are having smart boards made and put into classrooms. But do these smart boards really help the students learn better? I highly doubt that a smart board in the classroom is going to help a student want to pay attention to another boring lecture of some moment of time in our history. Frankly, that smart board is all but making the teacher’s job easier. Or is it? What if that teacher or professor is a little older than some of us? Someone who is not used to having the high amounts of technology in today’s classrooms may not know how to work that smart board. All that does is waste time. The same can go for students who grew up in low income areas who are not used to working with computers. While others in the classroom are busy typing a paper, this student is probably sitting in the back wondering how to change his font. The fact is too much technology in the classroom can cause negatives for both the student and teacher in many ways.…

My approach to teaching is simple, I want to teach my students material that are relevant, applicable and something that they can relate to. According to the video script of this week’s module, the purpose of technology is to enhance learning and engage students (Grand Canyon Univ., 2012). I couldn’t agree with this more, anything that is added to the curriculum should only be added to enrich it. I would use technology to reinforce what is being taught in class, as well as an outlet which students can begin to engage themselves in self-discovery. My mission is to create lifelong learners, and technology definitely will assist me in…

Being a busy mother I know that I am guilty of handing my child an electronic of some sort such as; the IPad to keep him quiet while I get housework done. However I don’t know how I would feel if that were take place in his classroom; bringing technology into the classroom. Even though we had computers in the 90s, technology was fairly new and underdeveloped; we did not have smartphones and access to much information via technology. But I feel like as I progressed into high school and the technology was on the rise if something were to happen to the computer (which happened often) I was still taught the basic foundations on completing whatever task that was, without relying on the computer or other electronics like a calculator. I knew how to research information using encyclopedias and other books. Furthermore, I feel like bringing IPads, smart boards, and computers into the classroom space take away from the overall learning experience.…

It is important to use technology in schools, technology is made to simplify the way we do things, and so both students and teachers can benefit from the integration of technology in schools. This has been the case for years and a number of inventions have helped both student and teacher. For example, when the projector was introduced to school it was a huge success, for instance, class plans and notes can be prepared easier and thoroughly before a lesson. In addition, there have been many who believe that the overhead projector saves time and is easier to use than a chalkboard. For example, writing material on the chalkboard over a period of time tires the arm. Furthermore, the device allows the instructor to face the class, which helps facilitate classroom discussion and…

Using technology in primary classrooms by: Roseanne DePasquale, Erin McNamara, and Karen Murphy details how technology has definitely become a part of most children’s lives. Many school systems and child development programs have implemented technology into their programs as a learning tool. With the use of growing technology in classrooms many questions have arose. According to the article, “Visions of programmed instruction and electronic worksheets have caused teachers to fear that children will miss out on key experiences that support their development if computer technology infiltrates teaching.” I agree with this statement because students should have a balance between instructional patterns. In this article, I was introduced to some of the broader issues around using technology with young children. All three authors of this article gave great examples of how to integrate technology into lesson plans for young children in relation to science.…

Schools around the world have been enhanced by the presence of technology. Whether someone is writing an essay on a laptop or studying the mysteries of the cosmos, advances in tech have changed education in ways such as the Smartboard. In classes, of various subjects, it seems no classroom is complete without a Smartboard. The interactive aspect of the boards assists people with kinesthetic and visual learner profiles which can peak interest in the subjects taught or makes it simpler for the students to understand and therefore hopefully hold on to the information better. Another technological advancement for learning is none other than the PC (personal computer) because of its access to many websites linked directly to education such as Google Classroom which is used for teachers to give assignments to students via Google Drive.…

Education and technology now work in tandem and is seeing more and more integration within our education system. We can safely say that this change from chalkboards to smart boards have grown significantly and swiftly in our higher education. Mcnergney and Kent in Will Technology Really Change Education name key advantages to the implementation of new technologies in classrooms. First improved digital technology allows educators “Monitoring success and showing areas of improvements,”(6) Monitoring and tracking individual students allows teachers to easily identify deficiencies in their students. "Technology makes the teaching-learning process very easy and interesting," says Harish Arora, a chemistry teacher at the Bal Bharti Public School in New Delhi who has been using Smartclass since 2004. "For instance, [earlier] it would easily take me one full lecture to just draw an electromagnetic cell on the blackboard. Though I could explain the cell structure, there was no way I could have managed to show them how it really functions. This is where technology comes to our aid -- now I can show the students a 3D model of the cell and how it functions. Instead of wasting precious time drawing the diagram on the blackboard, I can invest it in building the conceptual clarity of my students."…
