Enduring Love Act 1 Scene 1 Summary
Prologue In the prologue, you will meet Chris. Chris is the impresario of the theatre in which the play will take place. Chris is known for being a bit short-tempered and harsh, but it is important to remember that he is only this way due to unfortunate events in his past.

Scene 1 Scene 1 begins with the introduction of two great friends; Padraic and Nathan. They both plan on auditioning for a spot in the theatre, but they have many reservations. In Padraic’s case, he is very clear about being disheartened by the countless rejections he has endured in response to his comedy routine. Nathan on the other hand, tries to play it cool, but he is too fearful that people may be right about his acting being a foolish career for him to enter.

Shel Silverstein wrote a children’s book that can be perceived through multiple critical lenses, from historical to feminist to psychological. In the Giving Tree he uses personification, metaphor, and allusions to depict the psychological impact of growing up with someone who was different than him but whom he shared a special bond with.

Silverstein begins by using personification to describe the tree's constant giving and dedication. Throughout the life of the tree, she ultimately sacrifices and gives everything she has to the boy symbolizing both compassion and love. She continues this pattern throughout her entire life and his entire life which is why Silverstein may have portrayed her as a woman. Throughout history women have been…

The starting of Enduring Love starts of relatively calm, Joe and Clarissa are sat “under a turkey oak” whilst enjoying a picnic and a bottle of “1987 Daumas Gassac” in a pastoral scenery. However this is just to start the story as a traditional Once upon a time story, to give the illusion that all is good. What we don’t know that the information given in the first line creates a sense of foreboding, with “Given” information, as Joe states “The beginning is simple to mark”. This gives the reader information by the author and characters we know that the beginning of this story is calm but reading on we understand the catastrophe which is about to unfold in regards to the balloon accident.…

In an alternate universe, a small group of rebel aliens came to earth eons before humans existed and fought for the freedom of this planet. These aliens are actually sentient rocks. Their main powers, their being, even their physical form all originate from gems placed on their body somewhere. This is why the race is referred to as ‘gems’. Each character is named after the mineral that makes up their gem. These gems can fuse, that is, they can mesh together their consciousness, strengths and bodies to combine into a bigger gem, called a fusion. Once fused, gems become more powerful than they would be alone. These fusions also have their…

Shakespeare's prologue is read by a chorus, which explains the situation, and tells us that we are in Verona." Two households, both alike in dignity" this tells us that the two families are both well-off and of high importance. "A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life," this tells us that the ill-fated lovers (Romeo and Juliet) will in the end die. The prologue tells the audience that…

In Let’s Talk About Love, Carl Wilson touched upon people’s tastes in music. Quoting the French philosopher and poet Paul Valéry, Wilson explained, “Tastes … are composed of a thousand distastes” (Wilson 11). This essay, however, will show that Mr. Wilson was looking at taste in music backwards; what one likes is not made from what one dislikes; instead, what one dislikes is made from what one likes.…

"The beginning is simple to mark". This is the opening sentence of Ian McEwan's novel "Enduring Love", and in this first sentence, the reader is unwittingly drawn into the novel. An introduction like this poses the question, the beginning of what? Gaining the readers curiosity and forcing them to read on. The very word "beginning" allows us an insight into the importance of this event, for the narrator must have analysed it many a time in order to find the moment in which it all began, and so it is obviously significant period of his life. And surely if the beginning is "simple", what is to come must be complex. This and the writers delaying tactics, attention to precise detail and a red herring hook the reader and draw them well and truly…

Theatre was not something that came naturally to me. When I came to Gautier High School, I was a quiet, reserved middle schooler just as ready to piss his pants as any other in his grade with the exception that I had the knowledge to not show it. I had yet to speak above a whisper and my yell was akin to a mouse’s yawn. In the words of a few teachers, I was “the most socially maladjusted child they had ever seen.” I was not a hot-shot and I most certainly didn’t crave to be the center of attention. So, in the moment of insanity that was my ninth grade year, I decided to audition for a school play. In the process of destroying preconceived notions, I met the singular most influential person, the director and theatre teacher, Amanda Brown.…

The background behind this monologue was when Romeo saw Juliet at Mercutio’s and Benvolio's party, hoping to get Rosaline off Romeo's mind. Before the party Romeo was heart-broken over Rosaline and was convinced that he would never be able to get over her. However, he quickly forgot about Rosaline as soon as he laid eyes on Juliet. The main idea of this passage is basically saying how Romeo has never seen a girl as beautiful and as pretty and Juliet and how he would do anything to see her again. One character trait that Romeo is showing us early on is his shallowness.…

“ Love Calls Us to the Things of This World” by Richard Wilbur is a poem about our reason for living. The reason we get up every morning and go about our day according to Wilbur is love. The title of this poem clearly is making that statement. The title however is not quite enough to portray exactly what it is that we are being called back from. When we are sleeping, our souls become part of a peaceful and pure realm. In contrast the waking world is full of stress and undesirable challenges, a world in which the soul has no desire of being part of. Using highly refined diction and structure, Wilbur portrays the contrast between the two worlds and our soul's reason for accepting the return to reality.…
