TO MAKE REQUIRED CHANGES IN TACKLE FOR PICKING
ENGINE AND TAKING IT TO CHASSIS ASSEMBLY LINE
Engines are not the integral part of phase IV plant. They are manufactured and assembled at Swaraj Engines Limited (SEL), phase IX plant. They are received as single assembly at one corner of assembly plant. They are then fitted with clutch plates, starter motor, front axle beam etc. As shown in figure, assembled front portion of engine is lined up for picking up and placing in main chassis line for assembly. Present method used for picking doesn’t seem quite safe and it is time consuming as well. This project discusses about the same and changes to be made. 10
As shown in pictures:
Firstly, a worker meshes 2 tapped rods on bolt heads provided on engine head. The other side of tackle is hanged in exhaust pipes side of the engine.
In next step, engine is moved towards chassis assembly line using hoister.
Finally, another worker un-meshes the tapped rods and removes the tackle from exhaust pipes side at the end of the station.
On meshing and un-meshing of bolts and rods, they can wear out after some time due to rugged use by workers. This can further lead to weakening of threads, and thus, breakage. And engine can fall down any time in between. A quality time is consumed in meshing and un-meshing the threads. 11
I tried to make few changes in design of the tackle used to carry the engine. I used “Solid Works” designing software to present the new design.
In the new design, carrier or tackle is in the shape of a fork. It is provided with slots at its bottom. Through these slots, rods are passed. These rods have protruded part at their tip. This ensures the proper locking.
This tackle is made in a way that these rods go into the space provided between intake and exhaust manifolds. Fork carrier...
