Empress Wu's Power In The Tang Dynasty
Empress Wu was the one and only empress of all. She accomplished a lot in her time of power in the Tang Dynasty. She helped women become more powerful and just as good as men. She also influenced all to learn and receive good education. She was born into a wealthy family welcoming her into a learning environment.
Empress Wu’s family was from Wenshui, China. She was born in 625 and died December 16, 705. Her father was Wu Shihuo (577- 635) , he was a member of a renowned aristocratic family. Her mother was Lady Yang (579-670), she was a member of a former imperial family and a high-ranking civil servant. Wu began a campaign to elevate the position of women at the time. Empress Wu had scholars write biographies of famous women, and raised the position of women’s rights and power. Empress Wu was given the privileged position of first concubine even though by law she should’ve been left in the temple to be a nun. According to some historians resulted in better equality between the genders during the succeeding times of the Tang Dynasty.
Empress Wu was the only female empress in history. She made an equality balance for both genders to have the same amount of rights and power. She also had an increase in population and food storage thereby ensuring a stable society due to her intelligence and methods to rule the Tang Dynasty. She also launched the individual exam system in order to choose officers herself. Due to the education she received in her early life, she proved to be very good at writing literature and composing poetry.
