When the Roman Emperor Augustus came to power in 27 BC it was after a period of civil war that lasted over 70 years following the death of Julius Caesar. Rome had 50 legions at this time, and number that would have put too great a financial strain on the Roman coffers. During this time Augustus also limited Rome’s territorial ambitions choosing the secure its gains and to not expand it much further, thus making it more unmanageable both administratively and financially.…

Having a strong ruler is key to a successful empire. A strong ruler is a sign of a strong empire, and if you have a weak leader who makes bad decisions when your empire will most likely crumble. Many empires such as Carolingian, the Qin Dynasty, Egypt, and so many more thrived because of their strong leaders, even if that time of prosperity doesn't always last long. One great and powerful leader that lead his empire to peace was Augustus. "The era of Augustus’ reign was a golden age in every respect. " (Augustus) A strong leader often brings prosperity which causes the citizens to be more patriotic. This patriotism helps strengthen the empire's military might because more people would be willing to fight for the empire that they…

While some differences between second wave empires and river valley societies are noticeable, the similarities are far more pronounced. In comparison to the initial civilizations discussed in chapter two, the second wave empires were much larger and significantly more powerful. However this is nothing special because through much of history, empires and political organizations grew continuously stronger and held more authority, parallel to the development and understanding of humans. In contrast, second wave empires maintained many of the traits of the initial such as the practice of monarchs, patriarchy,…

In history, the main reason why a nation prospers is because of its leader. The best written piece I have come across on this topic is Niccolo Machiavelli's book, "The Prince". A leader should be intelligent, strong, caring and devoted to his subjects. Although people have different opinions in the qualities of a good ruler, all believe that a leader should help his nation grow and thrive.…

While there are prominent similarities between the Christian churches of the West and East, the Byzantines felt more imperial and superior to the Western side of Europe. The Byzantine Empire allowed more religious freedom, at the price of taxes. They considered themselves more holy in the sense of Christianity due to the fact that they were older and therefore more “experienced”. Through the account written by Liudprand of Cremona, I have formulated several aspects that show the West-Byzantine relations in the 10th century.…

Leaders are everywhere in our world. They constantly surround us and tell us what to do. Leaders have shaped our history and are constantly shaping our future. Some excellent examples of good leaders are Adolf Hitler and Julius Caesar. We might not agree with some of the policies that Hitler performed, however, we can conclude that his excellent leadership skills allowed him to effectively govern about 69 million citizens. Caesar’s quick and decisive personality granted Caesar the title, Dictator, of the Roman Empire. Under Caesar’s rule, the Roman Empire vastly expanded its borders through military annexations. But, with all things foretold, what designates someone the power to lead people? There are several factors that bring about a good leader. The three main factors incorporate communication, confidence, and commitment. Anybody that decides to encompass these factors, will not only be a good leader, but they will also be an effective and a revolutionary leader.…

Rome was well known for its rule, is also wildly known for art. This also includes many architecture feats, just for example “The Roman Arch”. Also made famous by the Romans is the Colosseum, which was a monumental accomplishment for the roman people. Before Rome there was ancient Greece, which helped make these thing possible for the Romans. The Greeks had devised pillars, which the Romans took note of. The pillars, known as Greek Orders, these which were divided into three different orders, Doric, iconic and Corinthian orders. One campus houses the ninth graders and half of the tenth graders. The second campus houses the other half of the tenth graders as well as the eleventh and twelfth graders. This project will be completed in phases over a three to five-year time-period, and begin in the summer of 2107. In addition to this impending construction, both high schools are now under the supervision of one principal. This year has brought…
