To describe Nick Wilken I would use three words; laid back, athletic, and misunderstood. As a matter of fact, a perfect weekend for Nick would include one or two close friends and some stupid, adventurous fun. He chooses not to worry about the big, scary consequences in life. In addition to acting as a chill fellow, Nick steps up his game in athletics. Basketball and football define him as a strong team player on the court and on the field. Although, Nick feels that basketball defines him the most. In contrast, under this veil of athleticism Nick feels misunderstood. Maybe the feeling that people negatively view him explains his pessimistic outlook in life. However, as a child, Nick never knew how life would turn out. Not to worry, Nick’s family…

Initially, through his modern education and willingness to open his mind to other perspectives, Nick is exposed to new scientific principles that considerably contrast his father’s ideologies; which sparked conflict that slowly parted their close bond as a father and son. Mr. Solchuk’s complete disregard of his son’s education, along with Nick’s unwillingness to comply with his father’s beliefs, are the main sources of stubbornness and ignorance that make it difficult for the characters to come to terms. In Nick’s case, he grew up in a reality sheltered from foreign worldviews that contradict his father’s passed down traditions of faith; and when he learns that there are alternative perspectives that are widely accepted around the world, he…

We begin our story with Nick Carraway; he introduces who he is, and how he behaves. Nick is a humble and judgment free type of gentleman. “In consequence, I’m inclined to reserve all judgements, a habit that has opened up many curious natures to me and also made me the victim of not a few veteran boxes.” (Fitzgerald 1) says Nick. This shows Nick’s reasoning for being judgement free. Not only is Nick a humble and judgement…

Chapter one I think the most crucial plot point in chapter one is seeing Gadsby reaching toward the green light. I think this is the most important plot point because the readers do not understand why this is significant at this point. It is something the readers will learn more about as the book goes on. It is foreshadowing things to be learned later in the book.…

Although Nick knows that Jordan Baker is a liar, he still fails to clear his feelings. He is quite confused about how to deal with his newly formed interest toward a person who goes against most of his morals. In the midst of frustration, Nick has to make a decision of what to do with his relationship with Jordan. It is important to know that her morals are completely opposite from Nick. Her value is based upon money and success. For example, when Nick went to Daisy’s house, she told him that Jordan only likes rich guys. This shows the fame that Jordan has and her standards of living. She wants to continue a life of luxury with someone that could financially support her without any trouble. If Nick went by his values as an honest person, he should clear his feelings because continuing a relationship with a person who is a liar and who only seeks out for foolish men will not help him in any…

As for Nick, I think he realizes that life doesn’t last forever and we don’t always get what we want. Being highly educated, he isn’t naïve to the facts of life. Part of me also thinks that he believes on one fine morning, karma will come back to haunt you in a way. Meaning, everything that we have done will come back and bite us, and the fun will be over. “The…

A nonconformist is a person whose behavior or views do not conform to prevailing ideas or practices of the society. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury the main character Guy Montag was a nonconformist to his society, and in the movie Cool Hand Luke directed by Stuart Rosenberg, Luke Jackson was the nonconformist. Guy Montag was considered a nonconformist because in his society you weren’t allowed to read books, and he did. In Luke’s society he was considered a nonconformist because he went against the jail and ran away repeatedly. Luke is more of a nonconformist compared to Guy Montag because Luke was a man who refused to be nailed down or conform to the rules and regulations of a society.…
