Emotional Intelligence can be attributed to bringing the fields of emotions and intelligence together and using this co-existential information to socialize effectively with people around you.
Over the years, a lot has been tried to express about emotional intelligence and Peter Salovey along with John D. Mayor tried to consummate everything in their version. It describes emotional intelligence as an ability to perceive emotions, use them effectively in various situations, understand the difference and manage them to sense and regulate one’s own as well as other’s feelings. According to them, it is important to have a command over one’s own emotions first and understand the thin line differences between similar emotions to regulate them in people around.
Emotions are also a way that defines your mood. One needs to master the act of capitalizing on their mood swings and employing the correct emotions at places where they can prove to be of advantage. For example, often anger, when employed in a direction to achieve something, may reap good results at the end.
Measuring Emotional Intelligence
Several authors published their opinions about emotional intelligence but most of them initially failed to derive a way to measure emotional intelligence. The primary approach was making users fill surveys in the form of questionnaires which contained a list of questions related to emotional intelligence. A couple of drawbacks that came up in this approach were if the users were actually aware of their true sense of emotions and also if they were actually honest in revealing these answers to public surveys.
