“No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true”-Cinderella; Is this statement always true? Emma was an evil seamstress from a small village and there she bossed around her two sisters Anastasia and Drizella. Emma was their mother’s favorite and they were treated like servants. Their father had recently died and their mother was unaffected, but they carried a weight in their hearts. They felt as though they only had half a heart and the other half had been ripped from them. They often remembered when their father was alive and how happy they were as a family, but when their father died everything changed. Their mother was Lady Tremaine, you may have heard her name from the famous tale of Cinderella. Well, this is the tale of her daughter’s lives before their time with Cinderella. Anastasia was sleeping on the floor of the kitchen and Drizella was sleeping on the floor of the washroom. They were knocked out from all the work they did the day before and they had purple bruises on their arms and legs because they had never worked a day in their lives. Emma came raging down the stairs and she was screaming something. You couldn't make it out, but she sure sounded upset. All of a sudden Emma slipped and fell down the stairs.     While Cinderella’s mother and the Fairy Godmother are not named, her stepmother and stepsisters are and hold many conversation with Cinderella and each other that revolve around numerous things like clothing, chores, nature and kindness. But, people still tend to have a problem with the story, thinking it feminist. In the film, the stepmother and step sisters obsess over their own looks and constantly put down Cinderella, even her name is a mockery. Then there is also the fact that the Prince ‘saves’ her from her life of misfortune and misery. But I don’t think that this is the case. Kenneth Branagh, the director of the film, balances the old with the new. He keeps aspects of the original Walt Disney film while modernising the character of Cinderella. The film focuses on the message that you should be kind to others, even if they are not kind themselves instead of beauty. Cinderella is also shown to be kind, courageous and brave with a unique personality which the Prince fall in love with. Yes, she is beautiful, but the Prince does not fall for her beauty but rather is charm.
