Emily Wolfe Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People
Emily Wolfe, a believer of the Lord and freshman at Elk County Catholic High School, begs all those who are asking the question, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" to please read this letter with hope an openness in your heart. I feel suffering everyday and ask this question frequently as well. When bad things happen, we all can feel confused and maybe even angry about it. There can be many mixed emotions. If 6,098 people die each hour, then we can only imagine how just this one type of bad thing effects so many people throughout the world. Peace and grace to you from the Lord Jesus

Everyone in the world can testify to their trials and tribulations but they are exactly what morphs and shapes us into who we are. The weak succumb to the poison and destroy themselves, but the strong understand eventually that where you come from and what you have been through does not define you. It is an individual choice you make to lay down and die or stand up and make something of yourself. Kari Patterson understood that. Since she was a little girl, she represented hope for a better tomorrow. Continuous negative events in her life was like putting black food coloring in hydrogen peroxide. Tina Mabry’s one solid message to the world is, “there are always options when you think there are…

We have been prey to bad people, and we have lost everything. A few times. I have learned by taking the rough road that without God’s presence, leadership, and Grace in my life, there is danger and failure. When I am walking with God, bad things still happen, but I am able to deal with them and find a way out for myself, and sometimes my children. I am learning to not forgive myself, and allow God to love me, I set us all up for defeat. I am getting used to living in Grace. I want that for my children. I want that for everyone! God is good, and we are blessed. Even with the hard things that temper…

Sometimes we think that our plans must lead down a better road, or that God must not love us enough to protect us from this pain we feel, but God actually uses the painful experiences to further develop our character. Vivian Thomas could have given up when it became too discouraging, but instead he persevered and became an inspiration to many people. During times that are hard, God teaches us more about life, ourselves, and most importantly, about Him. Sometimes it is even necessary to go through a difficult time before we are able to realize the ways in which we need to grow and…

In The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, Corrie, the main character, meets with a loyal German lieutenant for a hearing. During this hear the officer questions why God allows suffering. Suffering is the most famous question all people have asked from one time or another. They don’t know the answer, nor do Christians understand the concept of suffering. They too wonder why God allows suffering. Although a large number of people see suffering Christians as a punishment from God, I believe God allows people to suffer because suffering can change people’s perspective on how they see God, it teaches people, specifically Christians, how to respond to those trials that God sends, and it teaches people to rejoice and give praise to Him.…

As human beings we feel the need to find a point to everything. It is hard to believe that something just happens. Good things happen for a reason, just as bad things do. Suffering is no different, in our minds there must be a point to experiencing bad things. Thus, suffering makes us stronger by strengthening our personality, motivating us to be better, and teaching us to accept what cannot be changed.…

Religious folk claim that God is all-benevolent. If this is the case, then why is evil permitted to exist? When faced with this question, believers state that evil exists to promote “the greater good”. The greater good is the idea that some pain and suffering must exist in the world for us as humans to access our second and third level “good” platforms. These levels consist of human qualities such as courageousness, charity and sacrifice. Believers claim that life would not be as good, or as whole, without knowing these feelings, however, I argue that if we never knew any of the “higher level” qualities, then we wouldn’t miss them. If, from the beginning, we only knew the first level good, and knew no pain and suffering, then we wouldn’t know any different. Could it not be a better life, a better world, with absolutely no pain, suffering or evil? So, the question remains, if God is wholly good then how does evil exist? It is possible that God is not completely good, it may be that He permits some evil to exist so we can reach our “greater goods.” On the opposing side of that theory, is it actually that there may not be a God and that evil is a product of our human nature, as well as the good in the world.…

All over the world, millions of people are suffering daily. Unfortunately, many of them do not know Christ and/or don’t have a way to get to know Him. The fortunate few are able to pray and believe that God will help them get through their sufferings and that He knows what His best for them. They know that God has a plan for them and they should trust in Him with all of their needs. Unfortunately, some of those who don’t know God have resorted to taking their own lives because they felt like there was no one listening to them. In the Great Depression, so many people felt like no one was listening to them or hearing them and felt like they needed to die. In World War I and World War II, families started to become depressed when their family…

"Why do bad things happen to good people?" the young and naive Chanyeol in third grade would ask his father when he spotted a teenager being dragged by his collar to a dark alley before being pushed against the wall. That teenager was his neighbor, the guy that would tell him good morning everyday while pushing his glasses up, or walk across the street while reading his book, and sometimes offer Chanyeol candy whenever he see him playing outside.…

Everyone has peaceful and strange events that occurred in their lifetime. There are several chances that one expects something pleasant to happen and it comes true. On the other side, an occasion doesn’t appear when somebody expects it. I can explain this with my personal account of Hurricane Sandy, an event that occurred on October 29, 2012 and ended on November 2, 2012. This affected the northeast portion of the United States. As a result of this event, I had lost power, had a tough time doing tasks, and took my education away. On the other hand, I was thankful that the disaster ended a few days later.…

In less than twenty-four hours my aunt passed away, followed by a dear friend. More recently, my great uncle died. He was like a father to many of us who, at one time in our lives, were fatherless. I have attended more funeral this year than any one person should have to. Each and every day someone wakes up to an empty spot on the bed beside them, or an empty house, or even without a parent or role model. My family has had to show great bravery in basically a long string of what seems like bad luck. Some of the deaths were from old age, some were from illness, and one was done intentionally before his time should have been up. I believe that if he had someone to teach him about God's love and how when everything seems to be going wrong one can turn to him, that I would still have an eighteen year old cousin, who loved life and what it has to offer. If he had shown true bravery he would still be here today. He showed fear by taking his own life and not trusting God to make a way. It would have helped if he hadn't been raised in a home where there was no God. His mother doesn't believe in Him. Even still, I believe that showing bravery by continuing with life and its hardships takes work. Adversity and bad luck seem to follow some around like a rain cloud. But with God's love and power, He can grant us an understanding to deal with the things that seem like too much to…

    Human and Adversity

We see these inspirational adversities every day on the news or in the newspaper; handicapped people participating in the Olympics, cancer survivors, an orphaned child who grows up to make something of them self, blind people with seeing dogs, children with down syndrome and aspergers, the man on the news who lifts the car off the dying woman, and relief systems coming together for natural disasters. We even experience our own adversities everyday in smaller doses; the loss of family members, failing a class, losing a best friend, going through your first break-up, breaking an arm or a leg, getting laid off from your job, or even being the last one to get picked for baseball teams. Some may ask why these adversities are considered such a good thing? What good could root from suffering, or being miserable, or your whole world becoming seemingly impossible?…
