Emergent Reader Plan
Materials and Assessments: I will be using the following materials to create my “emergent reader book plan”: (1) the I like Myself book, (2) leveled book about topic, (3) list of words (different parts of grammar/traits/descriptive words), (4) chart paper, (5) markers, (6) magazines, (7) index cards, (8) glue, (9) scissors, (10) crayons, (11) paper, (12) writing utensils, (13) and pictures. In regards to space, my lessons will be taking place in the classroom, on the rug, on tables and the hallway. I will use several forms of assessments for this emergent reader book plan: (a) student participation observation notes, (b) use formal/informal/authentic/performance rubrics, (c) use a baseline of student work to gauge learning. attention to “how students us words to describe themselves or others, analyzing writings/drawings/products/verbal language used during designated literacy group time, usage of formal/informal/authentic/performance rubrics, video/tape recordings, teacher pictures and lastly the comparing the beginning, middle and end notes of student growth. …show more content…
Before the book is introduced, however, students will have an opportunity to work in pairs to help each other identify adjectives words that describe themselves individually. Also, while in pair’s students will be asked to go over discussion rules and expectations. Students who are physically unable to do this or are uncomfortable will have the option to sit on a bean bag or their assigned seat. The teacher will ask the whole class to think about the following question, “What is something that you like about yourself?” and/or “Can you pick and share a word that tells the class about you?” The questions will be posted on a piece of chart paper as a visual reminder for those needing extra support when thinking and
