Ellen DeGeneres is an extremely famous talk show host who is viewed by millions Monday thru Friday all over the country. DeGeneres is known as a very caring person who would give the shirt off her back to someone in need. In turn, her caring and positivity has made her a billionaire. DeGeneres is no Stanger to giving back, as she donates to many charities all over the world and has many of her own. DeGeneres is a comedian, talk-show host, gay-lesbian activist, and animal rights activist. If Ellen hears of someone having a tough time, she is there to help him or her. People instantly pick up on your warmth and sincerity, and they probably find you extremely easy to talk to” (p 47). Out of the eight dimensions of leadership, DeGeneres holds all of the wonderful qualities of an Affirming leader because of her positive energy, respectfulness, and support she gives others. DeGeneres is easy-going and always very happy. These are leadership qualities that many aspire to be. It was evident to me as I investigated someone who was an affirming leader that Ellen DeGeneres fit perfectly.

Sugerman, Scullard, and Wilhem explain in The 8 Dimensions of Leadership, “Affirming leaders have a pretty positive vibe about them. They excel at building morale and creating a supportive environment. They’re quick to acknowledge the contributions of their team members and to show people just how much their efforts and talents are appreciated” (2011, p 47). This description fits DeGeneres perfectly. Almost every television show has DeGeneres recognizing someone who has never been recognized before. A lot of times, DeGeneres’ kindness was given to schools, students, and teachers. The world depends on children learning, and it is up to the adults of the country to ensure its quality. If basic public schools do not have the means to suffice the students with a proper education, DeGeneres will notice. Dr. Cooper Lawrence from SheKnows Expert claimed, “Before DeGeneres helped out Spain Elementary School in Detroit, the building was decrepit and the students were relying on archaic technology to learn with. Things were so bad, in fact, that most of the kids didn’t even have books” (2017, para 6).
