Eli Lilly Mission Statement
Eli Lilly was founded in 1876 by Colonel Eli Lilly, deriving its famous name. The vision that Eli Lilly prides itself in is simple; to make a significant contribution to humanity by improving global health in the 21st century. The company has pioneered medical breakthroughs like human insulin, the polio vaccine, and many other breakthrough therapies. They have also set a high standard for giving back to local communities. They are passionate about their company mission statement. “We are passionate about building on this precedent in our continued quest to make life better for individuals, communities, and the world around us. We make medicines that help people live longer, healthier, more active lives” (Lilly.com). The company …show more content…
The committee is chaired by the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer and submits reports on the state of Lilly’s ethics and compliance program to the Public Policy and Compliance Committee of the company Board of Directors multiple times per year.
Written Standards Lilly’s Code of Business Conduct, The Red Book, is the statement of principles that guide the company’s day to day operations. The Red Book outlines Lilly’s core values as well as the expectation and framework for ethical and compliant behavior by those who work for Lilly or on behalf of the company. The Red Book directs management and employees of the company globally to act in accordance with laws, other legal requirements, and applicable company policies. Lilly also provides for its employees more detailed policies, standards and procedures that establish expectations for ethical and compliant behavior. Employees may submit reports through their management, or to human resources, a company attorney, the ethics and compliance department, the general auditor, or the chief ethics and compliance officer. Lilly has also established a hotline which is available to employees 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through which potential violations of legal obligations and policies may be reported. Through this, anonymity and translation services are also available. Reports of this nature should be submitted by telephone to 1-800-815-2481 or on-line at Lilly Ethics Point. There are some local limitations that apply to reports submitted from outside the United States in order to comply with local laws. Lilly does not tolerate retaliation by any individual against another for good faith reports of potential violations of law, regulations, or company

It is a leading global manufacturer and distributor of pharmaceutical therapies in cancer, cardiovascular disease, central nervous system and endocrine system disorders, and infectious disease. Among the companies many breakthroughs are cephalosporin, erythromycin, insulin and Prozac which proved to be world's most widely prescribed antidepressant and was a major source of company's revenue for more than ten years. In addition to Prozac some of Lilly's famous product trademark includes Darvocet, Evista, Gemzar, Humalog, Humatrope and Zyprexa. Eli Lilly was the first distributor of methadone which is used frequently in the treatment of some of the narcotic drug addictions. In 2003 Eli Lilly introduced Cialis in partnership with biotechnology company ICOS to compete with Pfizer's blockbuster Viagra for erectile dysfunction. Lilly in collaboration with other organizations is providing low-cost antibiotics, training for international medical personnel and technology to enable the manufacture of products for treatment in China, India, and South Africa.
