Elementary School Case Study
The student I chose for this case study is a fourth-grade student at an elementary school. I will call him Jane Smith. Jane is an African American student who has five other siblings: two younger brothers in first grade, a younger sister in second grade, and older sister and brother in high school. She is ten-years-old and has an official diagnosis of ADHD. Jane attends a regular K-5 public elementary school, and this is Jane's first year at this elementary school. Before this, she attended an elementary school across town with a lower socio-economical student population. She currently a part of the Florida opportunity scholarship program, the program offered students who attended or who were assigned to attend failing public schools the option to choose a higher performing public school or a participating private school. Frequently these students ride the school bus; however, Jane's parents provide transportation to and from school.

Therefore, the adults in Jane's life could decide to use positive reinforcement to change Jane habitual stealing. Given an interval of time, the adults can have her work for items on a wish list. If she can go for a set period without stealing, then she can receive her reward. Once there has been some success, then the interval can be increased and the reward gradually removed.
In brief, stealing is an unacceptable behavior that needs to be tackled as it related to Jane. Stealing is a crime and can lead to consequences far worse than being losing recess and having to apologize, including juvenile detention centers and even prison. The adults in Jane's life need to develop a plan of action for helping her extinguish this habit. Being it medical help, social support, or positive reinforcement; it needs to come for
