2 Hello, thank you for taking the time to listen to me tell you about Electronic Medical Records today. My name is Melissa. After my speech you should be able to identify what Electronic Medical Records are and what major benefits and features they have. I will also talk about the importance of Practice Management and how software can be very useful in assisting office personnel. Electronic Medical Records, also known as EMRs, “are computerized records of one physician 's encounters with a patient over time.” (Anderson, 2011 p. 32). Many health facilities are switching from paper medical records to Electronic Medical Records because it is easier to store, organize, access, and enter in health information. Although Electronic Medical Records may take time getting used to, there are many benefits to using Electronic Medical Records instead of paper records. The federal government believes that Electronic Medical Records are important too. Many veteran hospitals in the United States share an Electronic Medical System. The federal government has puts its money and efforts into a program called Vista. This program allows veteran patients ' medical records to be shared weather he or she is in a VA hospital or a regular hospital. Switching from paper medical records to Electronic Medical Records is a huge step toward ensuring that your medical office reduces its amount of errors while keeping the staff more organized and efficient while gaining access to medical
