El Patron Character Analysis
Matt…He is far by one of the most changed characters throughout the story. Matt has shown us many characterises of himself, such as the scene from the birthday party and how he did Maria. As a clone, many would expect this behaviour from Matt had they been around other of El Patron clones and learned how he was going to act. I believe the reason Matt acts the way he does is that he doesn’t understand anything. All he knows is what he is told, he doesn’t get to experience things like everyone else does, along with that is that of El Patron’s genetic make-up, Matt is expected to act exactly like El Patron did as a child or at Matt’s current age. Since previously reading the book, Matt goes through a huge turn of emotions throughout the novel. …show more content…
Things like the fact he was just being used for organs, or that El Patron didn’t really love him, and more basic things like that. However, as Matt got older he started to understand better but, not without someone else’s help. A huge change in Matt over all is when he started trying to be like everyone else and started learning how to help the next ruler of the farm on page 170 it states “No Matt realised, the old man meant him to have a higher destiny. He could never reach the status of Benito or Steven, not being human, but he could help them, and so Matt Had begun to study how the enterprise of running an opium empire worked” Here he doesn’t realize that he is going to be used for Organs rather than helping Benito or Steven rule the empire. He doesn’t realize anything of that sort until Maria brings up the fact the she knows where El Patron’s sources are hence on page: “I-I Maria seemed confused, ‘I’m not supposed to talk about it but yes, I do know where he got it and it is evil!’ she hugged Matt more tightly” That is when Matt had finally started piecing things together, So my statement that he can’t really piece things together unless he was given a clue by another person seems to be

Matt only got threw in the pit because he wanted to save his friend from being killed from a Keeper. They were also threw in with legs and hands tied with rope, duct tapes on their mouths. After Matt found a way to free their hands and legs using sharp bones, he became determined to climb out of the pit. Chaco warned him that if he tried to climb out that he would die, the pit was full of bones, there were no stable surfaces to climb on. Matt still didn't show any fear. In the text it says, “Matt said nothing.” Matt had his ways and he climbed out of the cave safely but tiredly. Matt also stood up for his friend that was about to get killed from a fight. Which is the reason he ended up in the bone…

My judgement is that Matt should love Maria the reason I think Matt should love her is because she is the only one around his age that likes him And doesn't think he's bad because he's a clone. In the story, it says“Is she you're little girlfriend? Why shouldn't Maria be his girlfriend?” (109) This shows that Matt likes Maria and he wants her to be his girlfriend. He is also feeling a little jealous because he doesn't see anything wrong with Maria being his girlfriend. Another reason I think This is true is because on it states “One more thing, Matt said. I demand a birthday kiss.”(109) When Matt said that and asked for the kiss it…

Did you know that in 1996 a sheep named Dolly was cloned? It is true, scientists have been working on cloning living things. But they aren’t able to clone a human because that is not yet legal. In the book The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer a boy named Matt is the clone of a powerful drug lord named El Patron. He is living with a woman named Celia when he got hurt and had to be taken to the Big House, then he ends up meeting El Patron and living in the Big House. Throughout the story Matt starts making friends with different people that treat him like a human instead of a clone, Matt has a choice to make to see if El Patron is worth it for his body parts or not. I believe the overall theme of this story is friendship. I also think the message she is trying to get across is that friends are never apart, maybe in distance, never in heart. In the story Matt really only makes a few friends such as Celia, Tam Lin, and Maria are three of the main ones that treated him like a human.…

Matt had to use the newspapers in the corner since Rosa took away the waste bucket. Nobody should use newspapers in the corner, unless it is an animal. Rosa thinks Matt is an animal, that’s why Rosa took away the waste bucket and told the gardener to fill the room with sawdust. When Rosa took away the waste bucket, she said that’s what dogs do; which is saying that Matt is a dog. He felt dirty and ashamed while using the newspapers in the corner. Nobody should feel ashamed or dirty using the restroom. Also, Matt usually gets dragged by the hair. He feels pain as well. Rosa just doesn’t care since Matt is a clone. No one should be treated like that. Finally, there is only one more piece of evidence to support the…

Throughout Matt’s journey, people constantly wanted him dead. The purpose for which Matt was created was to supply El Patron with his heart when El Patron grew close to dying. “In the end the only thing that mattered was how strong his heart was.” (Farmer 216) Matt didn’t want to die so he escaped from this sentence with the help of his friends. In The Screwtape Letters, no one wanted or could afford for the patient to die. While the war was happening, bombs were being dropped over where the patient was living. Screwtape was advising Wormwood. “Whatever you do, keep your patient as safe as you possibly can.” (Lewis 157) Even though no one wanted the patient to die he did, and Matt didn’t die against everyone’s…

Mattie Ross is a smart, competent and independent young lady. A person would think she's the average young lady from the western times that stays home to chores, but no not Mattie. Physically, Mattie is a clean cut, clothing neat and in order kinda girl. But when she is able to speak her mind there is no holding back what she thinks. Mattie is on a mission and explains to Stonehill, “I have hopes that the marshals will get him soon, His name is Tom Chaney. He worked for us. I am trying to get action. I aim to see him shot or hanged” (pg 33). She is somewhat of a strange and rare character, being all of 14 years of age yet with such head strong determination to have Chaney killed. Mattie sets off on a bone chilling journey of revenge and is faced with many obstacles that should send her home crying. Instead Mattie’s confidence and abilities to stand her own in such a hostile, male dominated land get her through the daily life-threatening occurrences. Mattie endured plenty of trials and tribulations, there was one point where Mattie recalls “I was so mad I must have cried a little but it was a cold night and by the time I reached the Monarch my anger had cooled to the point where I could think straight and lay plans (Portis).…

The major theme I took away from the Newbery Honor novel was the idea of Power. In the novel, El Patron has control of the entire kingdom of Opium and everyone that lives in it. Although El Patron is the ruler, some people are able to control their own destiny. Celia, for example rebels against El Patron by slightly poisoning Matt so that he is not able to be used for parts. This saves Matt’s life and also shows that El Patron could be tricked. “Power’s a strange thing lad. It’s a drug and people like me crave it” (243). Tam Lin is explaining why he killed the children as he takes Matt up the mountain preparing to escape. This is a lesson that is worthwhile to Matt’s life and it is what I took from the novel. People crave power like it is a drug and they cannot stop wanting more. El Patron had power but kept wanting more, until he had no more fight left in him. Power is in fact like a drug, and as Nancy Farmer explained in The House of the Scorpion, it can…

In their societies, both Montresor and Sammy appear to fit in in an everyday life alongside their peers, with common sense and fair judgment skills in sync with the world around them. What makes them different from the rest of the people in their world, is that they do not seem to adapt well to certain occurrences that may and do in fact end up causing them to overreact. Montresor feels he has been insulted multiple times by Fortunato’s remarks, and seeks vengeance against his so-called enemy for his own selfish benefit. On the other hand, Sammy feels that Lengel was unnecessarily insolent with the girls in the grocery store and wishes to make a point by resigning from his job, hoping the girls will appreciate his decision as well. They each seem as if they are disregarding their better judgment in the way that they react to these situations, and they both turn out to be nonconformists when they attempt to solve their solutions to their problems in such catastrophic ways. These primary characters have different morals and beliefs and they both base their decisions on those beliefs, determined to stick to them.…

Matt Fowler is portrayed in the story as being a man of great moral fortitude; he is a sensitive, loving husband, a protective father and a respected friend. The brutal murder of his son catapults him into a position in which he feels compelled to avenge the death. The conflict that Fowler feels after his son is killed is overwhelming to him. Fowler feels that removing his son's murderer from the world he and his family live in will ease his wife's pain. His concern and compassion towards is wife is obvious when he says in the story, "She sees him all the time. It makes her cry" (Dubus 85). Killing Strout is…
