In the beginning of unit one it becomes apparent that there are many difficulties involved in being a carer, the main difficulty that stood out for me is that many carers feel they have little or no choice in regards to who will care for the family member in question. Almost immediately we were made aware that Ann was expected to take on the role of caring for her step-father Augus when her mother passed away. Ann along with many other carers feel a sense of ‘Family duty’ when it comes to caring for a relative.…

My meaning in life is my intention in life. I often wondered about the meaning of my life more than anything else, from my earliest childhood memories. As children, we do not fully understand what our aim is however, we cognize that our being alive alone gives us meaning. Different aspects of my life became an adventure when I became a young adult exploring. Was not until I was of age where responsibility was mine alone that I began to put meaning, and purpose together. Nothing tends to resonate until such a time in one 's life.…

The true meaning of life is found only through one's happiness. Life can have over a million meanings this way, but happiness is the key to your personal answer. By choosing the path that you want to take a walk down in life, you you're choosing the one that will make you happy. For instance, Thoreau had a lifestyle lived relatively in the forest. It's what made him happy. Through this, he enjoyed living since he had went down the path that he chose causing him to live the life he imagined.…

Viktor E. Frankl discusses how man can find meaning and a reason in his or her life. Viktor is faced with obstacles all along the way of his life, and questions arise that he has a hard time answering. The same pattern of obstacles and questions arise in my life. Although Viktor’s imprisonment in a concentration camp was far more discouraging than anything in my life, he still had to answer the same questions in life as I do. What is my meaning? Why should I go on? Frankl talks about how we can discover life in 3 ways. The two I relate with are doing a deed and attitude towards unavoidable suffering. I interpret the first one as being the best person I can be to others and me, choosing to do just the next right thing. The second one, attitude towards unavoidable suffering, is something I have accepted a long…

Living life to its full potential makes your life meaningful. Throughout my own life, I have always had dreams and goals to achieve in the future. I believe Thoreau speaks about a person’s drive to see what tomorrow brings them when he writes about his “infinite expectation of the dawn.” line 5. Through his writing, Thoreau explains to us that by being driven to continuously improve our lives, we will be able to live a fulfilling life. Thoreau suggests that how I view the world will my shape life journey. “Every man is tasked to make his life, even in its details, worthy of the contemplation of his most elevated hour.” Line 8. This quote makes me picture myself on my deathbed, looking back onto how I lived my life. During my final hour, I want to be able to say that I enjoyed all the little things my life offered me and that my life had purpose. Whether this purpose was to get a degree, travel the world or raise kids, I want to be able to say, “Yes! I have accomplished something in my life that was purposeful!”. When I think about living a purposeful and fulfilling life, I think about doing something meaningful. Thoreau suggests “to live sturdily and Spartan-like…to cut a broad swath and shave close” line 15. Not only does Thoreau present an excellent sense of imagery, but he also makes an excellent point. In my opinion, Thoreau suggests that instead of living a normal, somewhat boring life, that I should live life “dangerously” and that I should live life on the edge. For me to live on the edge, I currently follow my passion to ski. In the future, when I find what I am truly passionate about, I will dedicate my life to it. Therefore, the one left to do is make sure that path is being continuously followed.…

Graduating college, getting a job, getting married, buying a house and having kids. For most people these are joyous events that are celebrated with family and friends; and come with hard work. However some people have a different mindset towards life. They perform tasks for the mere sake of getting the job done and life almost seems like a check list. There is a difference between being alive and truly living. Being alive is fulfilling the responsibilities and duties that are required of you. Truly living is when you seize every moment and make the most of it. One appreciates the small pleasures in life and is satisfied with what he or she has. It is easy to go through life without realizing you are not enjoying it. We get so caught up in trying to be the best version of ourselves that we don’t stop and appreciate the small things that bring every day…

People have different perspectives on how is life worth living. For me, there are many things that make my life worth living. Life offers many challenges but through the love that I receive from my family and friends I become strong enough to face them. Love that I can receive as I live is what makes my life worth living. The opportunity to receive and share it to others really makes my life worth living. Happy moments that I spend with my loved ones also make my life worth living. They help me create good memories as I continuously live. Another one is the chance to improve myself as an individual and to have a purpose on other’s life. As I explore my potentialities, it’s worth living to have an impact on other’s life. It’s like knowing that if I leave this world, I’ll be remember by those people which I have left an impact. And life is worth living because it lets us experience failures and attain success. Failures strengthen us to face the struggles and obstacles that we will encounter while success makes room for more improvement to be an individual worthy to be called as successful.…

Rene Descartes (1596-1650) said, “Conquer your- self rather than the world.”. To modern existential- ists this means that the World itself has no real meaning or purpose. It is not the unfolding expres- sion of Human Destiny or a Divine plan, or even a set of natural laws. The only meaning is that which we create by acts of will. To have a meaningful life we have to act. But we should act without hope. Acting is meaningful but it doesn’t create meaning that lasts beyond the acts themselves or beyond our own lifetime. You are what you do – while you are doing it – and then nothing. (Very depressing.)…

Is life worth Living? This is a question that I hear felinely. Some human beings believe that life isn’t worth living because it’s a lot of ups and downs in their lives or because they life is miserable. And it is some that believe that life is worth living. Life is a very beautiful and wonderful thing. Life isn’t meant to be giving to you or to be easy, God never said life was going to be easy and everything supposed to be giving to you. Life is what you make out of it. Everyone should live their lives to the best of their ability. I feel that some human beings have a sense why they are here on earth. They either choose to accept the reason or reject it. With that being said yes I believe that life is worth living. Just because some people may know their purposes in life doesn’t mean it’s easier to fulfill them much quicker and easier than the people that don’t know their purpose.…
