• In 20 years I’ll be…
The year: 2033, the world will look different, new buildings will be created and old ones destroyed, and I will be 35 years old. But for now the year is 2013; my 35th birthday is more than 7,000 days away. The way I take things, and most high school students take things, is one day at a time. I know who I am now, but what will I be tomorrow, or the day after that? Will I make the right choices, succeed in my activities, and accomplish my goals? Only time will tell, but in 20 years I see practically a brand new me. I would have already graduated college and been well into my Career as a Cosmetologist, trying out new hairstyles on my little boy and new make-up ideas on my little girl, that I’ll have in the future of course! When I’d always go and get my hair done by my hair stylist Marci, I’d always look at her and think that’s where I want to be, doing something I absolutely love. Now that vision is more vivid, I cannot picture myself doing anything else as a career in my future. I want to become a cosmetologist for a few reasons being, I LOVE to change my hair style, including the color, the streaks, the highlights, everything! I also love doing my friends hair, and cutting and styling my boyfriends. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve dyed my hair in the past year, my guess; about 6 times. I went from strawberry blonde hair to brown, to black, to bright red, to maroon, to black and now it’s black with red streaks. I have extensions and I take more care of them than I take care of myself, kidding! But all I can tell you, is that I absolutely LOVE

From a young age I remember going to the nail salon with my mom and sitting next to her while she got her nails done. I always wanted my nails to look as pretty and long as her nails did. Of course, I was too little for acrylic nails so a simple manicure did the job for me. I think all those years of going to the nail salon with her really got me thinking that, I could actually do that. Years after that I would do my friends and family's nails at home. Now that I have graduated high school, it's time for me to live my dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist. I know cosmetology isn't just nails, its so much more than that. I want to learn anything and everything cosmetology has to offer me. Getting my cosmetology license is a really big deal for me, it's not just a job, its something I've been wanting since I've been in elementary school.…

When I grow up I would love to become a cosmetologist. I have always been interested in styling mine, and others’ hair since I was a little girl. My aunt is a cosmetologist and I have always delighted in watching her delicately and gracefully cut, color, and style people’s hair. Once in awhile she will show me different techniques she has taught herself, or learned in school, and even discuss schooling with me. She says I am more than welcome to move to Lawrence and live with her and attend the award winning beauty school there in Lawrence. Everytime we get the chance to talk on this subject I get excited. Her helping and teaching me has inspired me in so many ways for the reason that it makes me feel as though this dream is actually in reach.…

Being a cosmetologist is going to be a challenge” said Mrs. Montello. I realized that to reach my goal I had to work hard and not give up. Mrs. Montello gave us an diagram of what our prices and services should be like. I studied the diagram so I could have an idea of what my salon would be like. One day Mrs. Montello told us instead of her teaching us, how about we teach her something. We went onto the clinic floor and I taught her how to braid like a African. That day the seniors decided to come in and help us. One senior explained to me that cosmetology is like being a creative artist, to just speak my mind through hair and makeup. I thought about what she said and imagined what next hairstyle I would do to express myself. I came up with an half updo and bouncy curly hair. It made me think of a formal or prom like…

In 17 years I will be 35. I do not like the taste of that statement rolling off of my tongue but still, it is the truth. 35 is an age that a lot of people see as the “oh my goodness I’m almost 40” age. But again, we all have to grow sometime. Currently I am a senior in high school and I graduate in about a month thank goodness. I have completely checked out of school along with all the other seniors. Although I may be slacking a little now, I do think about my future a lot. I will be moving into my apartment in downtown Fredericksburg the day after graduation and will be attending Germanna community college in the fall. I plan to study at Germanna for only two years then transfer to a university. There, I plan to prosper and major in special education. At the age of 22 I hope to have a job working with families with special needs children. I love interacting with special needs kids. I believe they are extraordinary people who just need help being found. I want to be that help. Within the ages of 27 and 30 I plan to marry a military man. Considering I come from a long line of military men it only seems natural to carry on the tradition. 5 years later give or take, I will be at the age 35. At this point I will probably be telling myself that I’m ready to stop getting older and never turn 40. But we all know that’s not possible. I plan to still be happily married living in Florida with two kids. I will still be working with special needs children and…

Never again will your biggest worries in life be about that science homework you didn’t finish, or why “Amirul” is ignoring you, or the horrible possibility of getting a pimple every Monday . Never again will you be a part of a community where an age difference of a year matters so much, and the moving up a grade, from junior to senior, seems so significant.…
