The Effects of Technology on Learning

Abstract:
Today our world is surrounded with some of the greatest pieces of technology that have ever been created. Technology has become one of the leading ways to enhance learning and make the classroom a more effective place. Each year policymakers are implanting new ways to better our education and through technology the accomplishments of our students will, in the future, will be far greater than we ever expected.

Hypothesis:
The use of technology in classrooms is spreading all over the world and the affects of it will only bring academic achievement to an all time high.

In my experiment I would use 3 groups of third graders from 3 different schools and test them over a period of ten years. The first classroom that I would study would go without the use of technology. They would only have the chalk board, flash cards, and things not ran electronically. My second classroom that I would study would be allowed to use technology but would be constantly monitored by an adult. The third class that I would study would be allowed to use any technology and have unlimited access.
I would break up the study into semesters therefore I could see if there was a change in the performance of the student. Each classroom would swap whether they had technology the previous semester and from this I would gather results and information on how technology based classrooms differ from those without technology. One thing that I would include in my study is special education studies. I would also like to see how they too are affected by technology in the classroom.
While doing the experiment I think that some problems that I may run into are: How the teacher allows the students to use technology in the classroom because each teacher is different in how they structure classroom activities. I think some positive potential findings would be that those using technology

For ages, classroom instruction has consisted of textbooks, many notebooks and a chalkboard. Pupils were required and responsible for four textbooks and notebooks. Now, the face of instruction has changed. Instruction has been transformed from the traditional framework of learning to a more abstract and advanced stage of learning. Because the world is advancing to greater depths of technology, teachers are responsible for cultivating, growing and maturing pupils into being fully capable function members of society. Teachers will foster and aid pupils into becoming well- knowledgeable 21st century citizens by integrating technology into the curriculum and instruction. Integrating new levels of technology to facilitate learning in the classroom will not only enhance classroom instruction, it will also produce members of society who has a prior knowledge of the various forms of technology and how they operate.…

Technology of the past 20 years has become a focal point of teaching and learning. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning for an individual by creating an environment that not only conducive for learning, but also places the child in a position to discover and learn them for themselves. Technology has given teachers to opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom, and has begun to reshape their role in the learning process.…

The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of technology on achievement in the public school system. Using technology is not a new form of teaching in the school systems, but the question are how effective is technology in the classroom and does it really help in some academic subjects. A classroom teacher has to use different learning methods in order for the students to understand the concept being taught. Unfortunately, computers cannot teach some academic areas such as literacy skills, math skills, writing and reading skills. Using technology can enhance learning in the classroom by helping the teacher generate ideas to keep students motivated to do their work.…

It seems odd to me to write a paper about the importance of technology in education. While there may still be skeptics within the field of education, I would imagine that most people would agree that a technology rich environment enhances a child's education at least to some degree. Even teachers who are reluctant to infuse technology into their lesson plans would have to see the merit of students using technology consistently in classrooms. Most of the recent research articles I've read on technology and classroom learning conclude not only that there is an increase in student achievement in technology rich classroom environments, but also an increase in student motivation, especially among at risk students.…

Currently, research has stalled on furthering the knowledge held about technology in the classroom because there are many hard to control variables. For example, previous studies like the Shankar study were conducted to test the effects of social isolation rather than the root cause of this social isolation. Social isolation and loneliness affect most adults’ health and if it is found that technology in the classroom is a cause of social isolation, then the number of those affected will grow. Another example of the lack of research is evident in the area of teaching experiments. In detail, studies empahsize that teacher critique and demonstration is the best path to learning, but no studies speak of whether it matters if the teacher is human…

Being a busy mother I know that I am guilty of handing my child an electronic of some sort such as; the IPad to keep him quiet while I get housework done. However I don’t know how I would feel if that were take place in his classroom; bringing technology into the classroom. Even though we had computers in the 90s, technology was fairly new and underdeveloped; we did not have smartphones and access to much information via technology. But I feel like as I progressed into high school and the technology was on the rise if something were to happen to the computer (which happened often) I was still taught the basic foundations on completing whatever task that was, without relying on the computer or other electronics like a calculator. I knew how to research information using encyclopedias and other books. Furthermore, I feel like bringing IPads, smart boards, and computers into the classroom space take away from the overall learning experience.…

Tablets. Smartphones. Smartboards. The biggest issue society will have to face in the near future is effectively incorporating technology into public schools. There is a mass of new equipment being thrown haphazardly into classrooms. But do teachers know how best to use it, or are they left drowning, trying to determine how to avoid the increased number of student distractions that inevitably accompany it? This is the newest challenge. How much is too much? Technology has the potential to revolutionize the classroom if used correctly, but it could also be severely detrimental to the education of our students.…
