The Effects of Garbage
Humans have always had an impact on their surroundings. Whatever we do to our environment, it will always have a payback when the time comes. Waste disposal is one of the biggest problems that the world is facing. In man’s everyday life, he produces waste materials which, if not properly managed, can lead to health and environmental problems.
Men throw their garbage everywhere not knowing what effects could it brings in the future. Garbage provides one of the most disastrous effects on nature. As much as the global population continues to rise, people have become more wasteful and the products of modern convenience such as plastics have rendered the earth a dumping ground for non biodegradable refuse. Nowadays, our environment is polluted and it is all caused by us human beings. The pollution occurs everywhere either in developed countries or even undeveloped countries. In Zamboanga City, the city local government thru city ordinance no.92-013 has designated a dumping site at Barangay Lumbangan for all garbages and solid wastes collected from the city. An ordinance prescribing guidelines to regulate the mode of operation of the city garbage collection system.
It is on this consideration that the study had been undertaken to determine the effect of the garbage dumping in Lumbangan as perceived by the residents of the said baranggay. Disposal of solid wastes has been a perennial problem of our government but also of the community.
The city government of Zamboanga in compliance with the mandate of Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 200, and considering various guidelines and memorandums issued by both the Department of Environment and Department of Interior and Local Government has completed a City Solid Waste Management Plan, which is expected to be fully implemented to conform with the deadlines set for the purpose.
Lumbangan is the host Baranggay of the city's garbage with the presence of the material recovery facility of which most of its constituents participate in the implementation of R.A. 9003. It is noticeable that the increasing amount of garbage collected every month indicates that waste generation has correspondingly increased.

As humanity develops new technology, the magnitude and severity of waste increases. When computers were developed, it widely was believed that the need for paper would be eliminated. On the contrary this was widely proven false and we are now utilizing more paper than ever. Canada is not an exception as the typical Canadian generates an average of three pounds of solid waste each day1. This alone shows what a careless species we have become- using and disposing materials without even considering the damage we are causing. With half a trillion tones of waste around the world, only 25% may be reused for a second or third time and less than 5% can be renewed limitlessly1. These facts are true only in developed countries. Since these traditional…

The most harmful way of dealing with waste is through sending it to landfill. This proves to take up huge spaces of land and is therefore extremely unsightly to individuals living close by. It is also a threat to groundwater and river quality as polluted substances can leak out of the landfill sites and find their way down into the ground or into nearby rivers and lakes. Another environmental impact is that decaying matter will produce methane gas, which is explosive and a greenhouse gas. This decaying matter will take ages…

In America garbage is constantly disposed improperly all over the world. I see that many people carelessly litter and throw trash on the grounds when they should rightfully be placed in their respectable bins. It is a pet peeve of mine to see the grounds soiled with waste that could easily be thrown away in trash bins. As a good Samaritan, every chance I get I pick up litter on the grounds and take the extra mile to prevent relatives and friends from contributing to the improper garbage disposal. I cannot bare the sight of garbage lingering around and by any means necessary I attempt to take precautions by placing garbage in trash cans. What many fail to realize is that the incorrect disposal of waste has consequences on the environment. Humans often forget that life exists in the outside world as well and disrespect the presence of the wildlife. If we seize the excessive rubbish we would save the animal life that could have possibly harmed its population. The decrease of animal life is a detrimental factor of the environment.…
