effects of earthquakes
Effects of Earthquakes
Nature is a beautiful thing, and there is nothing in this world without nature. It gives many wonderful things to mankind. Although nature gives many things to mankind, sometimes it show its terrible side. It is obvious that most of disasters are very dangerous to anything in the world. Earthquakes are one of the terrible outcomes of nature, and they bring a lot of big problems to humans and the animals. An earthquake is an sudden and violent shaking of the ground because of released energy, and sometimes it causes great destruction and casualties. When it happens, everything that it crosses is destroyed. Therefore, there are three effects of earthquakes : tsunamis, volcanoes, and landslides. The first effect is tsunamis that are very dangerous. According to James, when an earthquake happens, the crustal motion can directly cause a tsunami. Also, tsunamis can move enormous distances at 300-600 mph with a little bit of energy. Wave height can reach 100 feet and destroy local shipping and shoreline areas, therefore, this process of tsunamis may arrive around 10-45 minutes for several hours. Therefore, tsunamis are very dangerous to people who live around the beach(Sept, 1989). When a tsunami happens, forests can be destroyed and many animals will die. After that, a lot of people lose their family, and they cannot define where their family is that they still alive or they can dead. Hence, tsunamis are disasters that are very terrible for anyone, so people have to observe the waves when the earthquakes shake to avoid bad things that will happen after. The second effect is one of disasters which make anything become dust in few minutes, and this disaster is a volcano. According to Diane and Tania, scientists have known that volcanoes are one part which causes earthquakes, but they research that this relationship also can happen contrary. Volcanoes create a lot of hazards, and it is obvious that an small earthquake is a warning of an impending eruption. Volcanoes erupts when it is hot, and has liquid rock that is called “ magma “, so it forms volcanic earthquakes( April 2006 ). In addition, volcanoes can change the weather. They can cause rain, thunder, and lightning. Volcanoes can also have long-term effects on the climate, and they make the world become colder. Fast-moving lava can kill people, and falling ash can make it hard for them to breathe. Hence, they do not have food and can die from famine and fires which are related to volcanoes. People can lose their possessions as volcanoes can destroy their houses, roads, and fields. Landslides are also special disasters which cause a lot of troubles to humans. According to Diane and Tania, a lot of things can cause landslides such as heavy rain, wildfires, volcanic eruptions and human activities. On the other hand, earthquakes can easily create landslides which are terrible problems. On May 18, 1980, a magnitude-5.1 earthquake made the destruction of the North flank of Mount St. Helen, and it was the largest landslide that had ever happened. Within about ten minutes, 250 million dump trucks were destroyed by the largest landslide, and everything that it crossed disappeared ( April 2006 ). Therefore, landslides certainly cause damage to property, and this trouble brings losses to the economy of a country. Economic rehabilitation is also needed in the area that has experienced a landslide. Besides, landslides steal many lives of humans and animals which we cannot predict and control. In conclusion, those disasters are effects of earthquakes: tsunamis, volcanoes, and landslides. The details of three bodies help people realize that humans cannot control anything in the natural world. Thus, people have to learn more experiences and information about many disasters of the natural world to protect themselves. Besides, people also need to stop destroying anything which natural creates and try to follow the laws strictly.
