Activity #1

Race To See Who Feels the Bucket with the Most Water

“Group Size:” Groups of 5/ 3 groups
“Age Group:” Age 5 / Pre-K
“Length of Activity:” 10 minutes

“Developmental Goal:” The students will learn balance and coordination

“Skills Learned:” Balance and eye coordination, running

“Equipment Needed:” 3 empty buckets, 3 buckets filled with water, 3 sponges

“Set-Up:” Mark the running path with string, chalk lines

“Before You Start:”
* The students can start by lining up in rows of 5 students in each line. * Demonstrate to the students what the whistle to start sounds like, and inform them that when they hear the whistle blow they are to start the race until the last person has gone, and whoever has the fullest bucket is the winner.

“How to Play:”
* The students will start by lining up in rows of 5 students. * When the whistle blows the first student will wet their sponge and run to the other end and squeeze their sponge out into the empty bucket. * Once they have squeezed the water out of their sponge into the bucket, they will run back and give the sponge to the next person in line. * The next person will do the same thing until everybody has had a turn. * Once everybody has had a turn, the teacher/parent will check the buckets to see which one has the most water, and whoever has the most water wins the race.

“Variations:”
* The students can run or walk as fast as they can.
* Students with special needs, the parents or teachers can assist them with this task.

“Special Needs:”
* Autism * A.D.H.D./A.D.D.
* Cerebral Palsy
* Deaf/Hard of Hearing
* Emotionally Disturbed

“Snug a Bug in a Rug”

“Group Size:” Any size
“Age Group:” Pre-K- level
“Length of Activity:” 10 minutes

“Developmental Goal:” To strengthen muscles and balance, eye coordination

“Skills Practiced:” Running, Rolling, Walking, Bouncing, Tossing Ball

“Equipment Needed:” Mats, Blanket, Small trampoline, 6 Frisbees, Beach Ball

“Set-Up:” Make four clearly designated stations. One area will be for the mat and blanket. Another area will be for the trampoline, one for the Frisbees, and one for the beach ball. There will be a teacher or parent at each station to assist students if they need it.

“Before You Start:”
* The teacher will have all the students line up in one row. * The teacher will explain and demonstrate each station to the students.

“How to Play:”
* The students will start out acting like a ladybug and run in place fast and then slow. * Then the student will touch their toes, and knees with their finger tips. * Then the students will start out lying on the blanket on top of the mat, and roll themselves up...
