Extracurricular activities are those that fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum of school or university education, performed by students. Extracurricular activities exist at all levels of education, from 4th-6th, junior high (or middle school)/high school, college and university education. (Wikipedia, 2014).In MAAP, there are many extracurricular clubs like Kamaya Choir, Camera club, MAAP Technical Group, Basketball Fleet Squad, Soccer Fleet Squad etc. which demands extra time and effort from the midshipmen involved. Due to this fact, some midshipmen tends to blame their participation in extracurricular activities as the reason why their performance in academics is becoming poor. On the contrary, some midshipmen say that extracurricular activities affect their social life and academic life positively. Due to the contrary in perception of midshipmen, the researchers arrived to the idea of studying the effects of extracurricular activities to the academic performance of midshipmen. The researchers aim to find out if extracurricular activities affect the academic performance of midshipmen positively or negatively. The researchers came up with this study so that midshipmen can improve their academic performance by making appropriate adjustments to balance their nonacademic life to their academic life based on the results of this study. The main problem of this proposed study will be to find out if participating in extracurricular activities affects the academic performance of 1cl and 2cl MAAP midshipmen. Specifically the study will attempt to answer the following research questions: Are midshipmen who participate in extracurricular activities more motivated to study than those who do not? Do midshipmen who participate in extracurricular activities perform better in academics than those who do not? How does participating in extracurricular activities affect the academic performance of 1cl and 2cl MAAP midshipmen? How may time spent in extracurricular activities affect the academic performance of midshipmen? Null Hypotheses
