Education Goal Statement
Curry College of Education Goal Statement In 2014 I began teaching at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Martinsville, Virginia. It was my second year of teaching and I was eager, “prepared,” and confident. I learned quickly that this was unlike any school in which I had ever taught. Patrick Henry is a predominantly economically disadvantaged school which means, I was not as prepared as I thought. My first year at Patrick Henry was challenging and there were many bumps in the road but, I learned how to navigate them quickly. Teaching at Patrick Henry has been one of the most rewarding things I have done it my life. By obtaining my Maters in Curriculum and Instruction I hope to give back to a school community that I have learned so much from. I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education still undecided if I chose the correct career path for me. I started my career as a nanny, moved …show more content…
In 2016 I was appointed as the first grade team leader. In this role I lead weekly collaborative team meetings as well as weekly data meetings. I helped to implement “Words Their Way” a word study program designed to help student better understand phonics and spelling. I had used this program at my previous school and was glad to have the chance to help my teammates understand the process. Through this program we saw our students spelling and phonics knowledge increase. During weekly data meetings I guided my team to look deeper into their weekly and quarterly data. Through this process we noticed that our students struggled with certain concepts such as questioning, understanding main idea, skip counting, addition and subtraction. We used this information to help guide our whole and small group

The “under-appreciated” teacher epidemic of North Carolina needs to be completely terminated. NC Legislators, educators constantly mold and shape the keys to the America’s future for 8 hours a day and 5 days a week. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment must be recognized in the most prominent way. The loans and scholarships programs will be like that of a gift of gratitude for students, who despite all the problems such as of under-pay, will be rewarded and acknowledged for their compassion to commit to a flaw-filled career. Though education has its lengthy list of issues, it takes a true warrior at heart to fight the battles it come…

After volunteering in my children’s classrooms for years, I decided I would go to school to at least become a teacher’s aid. At the time I had met a teacher, Mrs. Zinno I told her my plans of becoming a teachers aid, she suggested that if I was going to go back to school for two years just to be an aid, why not go for another two years and become a teacher. I did alternative certification to become a paraprofessional or a teacher’s aide. When I completed my paraprofessional certification I still felt that it was just not enough. The words of Mrs. Zinno stuck in my head, I knew if I could complete this I could keep going; I set my goals higher. I attended Tarrant County College and received my Associates Degree; then I thought, “why stop here?” So, I continued to work on an Associates in Education.…

I have always aspired to make an impact on the world. Teaching in an urban school setting will enable me to make a positive impact and fulfill my share in this world while working a job I am passionate about. Students in urban schools are frequently looked over and are not taken seriously. Society does not expect students in urban schools to make it far in life, and often these children do not receive the opportunities other students receive. However we, as a society, fail to recognize the capabilities and talents all students, even in urban schools, embody. Students in urban schools are just as intelligent and worthy of success as anyone else. I want to take part to ensure…

When I first decided to become an educator, I wanted to serve students reflecting a community similar to my own upbringing. I have seen a number of failed reforms that have been targeted towards inner city communities and the negative impact inflicting lower income communities. Exploring my own identity, ethnicity and background is a huge factor in my preference for minimizing the achievement gap and seeking to elevate myself as a leader to advocate for educational equity against injustices. I was inspired to be a part of the change for my community after I spent a year substituting in both Atlanta Public and Fulton County…

My educational goal is to attend Western Oregon University and graduate with a bachelors degree in biology. I want to major in biology because my goal is to become a dentist. After graduating from Western Oregon University I will apply to a dental school to earn a dental degree. During my college career I will work hard to maintain a high grade point average just like I have in high school. My goal for high school was to get a 4.0 all through high school so that I could be the valedictorian. I was able to achieve this by doing my homework every night and studying tirelessly. There was times when I thought that I wasn't going to be able to accomplish this. For example, this year I am taking AP physics and I have always struggled with science…

The essay starts with Whitehead’s idea that authentic learning comes from a blend of expert knowledge and cultural knowledge. Expert knowledge comes from the course contents and cultural knowledge comes from activity of thought – which refers to students generating ideas of their own from their school experience or at least “playing” with the ideas presented to them in all ways possible to maximize learning. This leaves room for the student to discover for themselves what these ideas mean. The acquired understanding will not be complete without cultural knowledge such as the philosophies and arts which will allow the students to apply knowledge to life.…
