Edgar Allan Poe's Annabel Lee

During, the life of Edgar Allan Poe, he had lost many relatives and his lover, Virginia, to tuberculosis and other causes. The poem “Annabel Lee” illustrates this love and loss of his short time lover. Poe was alone throughout his lifetime. At the age of 2 his mother died and his father later abandoned him and his brothers. Unfortunately, this also happened with his foster parents. Many of Poe’s “relatives” had passed away or never bothered to care for him in the times he needed them the most. During his college years he suffered from a very bad gambling addiction and became poor. He ended up moving in with his aunt, where he felt much loved.
