Why do pesticides cause species of birds to decline? What is the role of biodiversity in an ecosystem? What are the consequences to biodiversity with changes in sedimentation and water? These are all common questions you would find an ecologist scrounging for information on; questions such as these are the basis and fundamentals of ecology. Ecology is derived from the German word oikos to mean the study of home. Ecology is the study of relationships between organisms and the environment in which they reside.

Ecologists don’t spend every second of their life in nature in fact ecologist spend most of their time in a lab processing environmental data. Ecologists spend on average two to four weeks, or months in some cases, in the field and the rest is spent analyzing data and observing how factors such as temperature and change in rainfall or soil can affect the organisms and their environment. Ecologists can be anyone from someone who works for the government to someone involved in a non-profitable organization or even on their own. In order for a career in ecology to go smoothly most people have experience with environmental science, chemistry, writing, reporting, computer skills, other sciences, and have experience in the field. Ecology is an international profession which results in jobs available all across the globe for this science; field work is spread throughout the entirety of the globe as well because the availability of environments to study is widespread and enormous. Ecologist make on average sixty thousand dollars a year and the lower range of their salaries consist of thirty thousand dollars per year.

In order to be an ecologist you need a bachelors degree in science and being an ecologist has benefits. Being an ecologist has many perquisites and there are many highlights of the career.     4.For any industry to even consider employing you you have to have a bachelor’s degree and have to have completed high school with some sort of biology class credits. The more experience you have the easier it will be to find an employer willing to hire, though in order to perform field investigations on your own you would need to have a Masters degree and several years of experience. That would be your best chance at gaining employment, but in order to do higher level investigations or to perform my own lab work you would need to have a Ph. D(Bureau). There are some classes available at Durant High School that would benefit me greatly in the future, such as anatomy, biology and even computer technology classes. Even wildlife biologist do a lot of computer work for graphs, charts and keeping tabs on all habitats you are investigating. 6. With that said you also need to have reliable outdoor skills, wildlife biologist often must be moved to isolated locations to do their studies and you must be able to provide for yourself and operate some kinds of machinery(Bureau). All of these skills will take time to develop but they will give you a much greater chance of achieving the career that you want and I am more than willing to meet all these requirements for my future…

In another source that tells what the education requirements is to become an ecologist, it says that practical experience is very important. It says one should volunteer or work as a professor's lab assistant or spend some time at a biological field station. The source explains that many colleges off Research Experiences for Undergraduates or REU programs. One can search for internships through the Environmental Careers Organization and get help from the Student Conservation Association, which helps match students with volunteer opportunities in their field of study.
