Upon the management’s request, I have been appointed as an analyst to express my opinion on the effects of proposed tax on sodas on its business and consumers. The supermarket chain is currently a monopoly and is comprised of seven stores altogether. The businesses have ample capacity and are currently charging the optimal price, quantity, and thus earning maximized revenue. However, the government is now considering a proposal to impose a 1% tax on soda sold in the supermarket chain. I have analyzed the effect of this 1% “fat” tax on consumers and its supermarkets. To better serve the management and help decide which tax schemes are better, I have included my analysis on this report. The information includes: current revenue maximizing price, output, and maximizing revenue; the effects on management and consumers’ satisfaction; and the alternative way for the supermarket chain to produce the same amount of tax revenues. I wish the management will consider all aspects and effects of the two tax schemes and carefully determine which scheme will benefit the consumers, supermarket chain, and government.…

A closed economic system is an economic model that only uses domestic exchanges of goods and services. The foreign produced goods and services that are bought by American households as well as factors of production acquired by American businesses from overseas owners are not included in the closed model. An example of a closed economic system would be communism. An open economic system is different from a closed economic model because this model includes all of the factors in a closed economy as well as the factors that come from foreign economies. These factors often lead to some sort of tax being paid to the government. An example of this type of economy would be capitalism.…

Economists and world political leaders utilize a method of keeping track of their final goods, products and services done within a year called the Gross Domestic Product. It also defines the economic heartbeat of a country by the ebb and flow of how the country as a whole is producing goods products and services including imports and exports. The Real and Nominal Gross Domestic product values are the a more inflated and direct answer for knowing approximately what the value of the countries dollar value are based upon from a period of time and values without inflation being accounted for. The Unemployment rate is the amount of individuals to a country who are currently unemployed or without work who are engaged in searching for employment or values of work. The Definition of Inflation is the rate at which the general level of the prices for goods and services rising, and, subsequently, buying power is drops. This is seen most commonly with examples of buying a loaf of bread 10 years ago versus the present value for a loaf of bread. Interest rates are a value of an item in a percentage where principal is loaned from a lender to a borrower for the use of an asset usually measured in an annual percentage rate (APR) For an example, an individual borrows $100 Dollars from a financial institution at a rate of 10% APR, for every year borrowed $10 dollars would be added to the amount owed back.…

Consumer income is another factor that affects aggregate demand and supply. The amount of income that consumers are left with after taxes and living expenses is the amount of money that circulates and helps the economy. When consumer income is low the demand of supply and goods is also low and when the demand is low the need to supply is also low. From a classical perspective, most of these economic factors are the doing of the people rather than the government or business itself. Unemployment is caused more by will than skill which leads to the government spending too much money on those unemployed. If the American people have the expectation that if they are out of work the government should take care of them, more and more will quit their job or hang on long enough to be terminated. The income of the consumer also has more to do with the relationships and policies set between companies and their employers. Consumer income and consumer spending are large contributing factors to the economy. Overall incomes have improved slightly, but wages and salaries have fallen due to federal spending cuts that caused recent furloughs across the government. American’s are cautious about spending because of the governments’ slow economic recovery over the last few years. Income growth is not at its best so consumers will not support heavy spending. Americans have reduced savings to compensate higher payroll taxes. This is now potentially catching up the consumer who now has a decreased ability to purchase nonessential items. The government faces a questionable economy regarding consumer spending, even for years after the recession, they are still timid about making major purchases. The weak growth of overall spending is partially due to fewer demands for durable goods; such as automobiles and furniture. People complain more about spending on high priced non-durable goods; such as food, clothing, and fuel, because it is a necessity.…

The Philippine economy grew by 5.7 percent in the first quarter of 2014, even as we continued to feel the lingering effects of the disasters that hit the country during the last quarter of 2013. Despite this, the Philippines is the third fastest growing among the major economies in Asia in this period, next only to China with 7.4 percent and Malaysia with 6.2 percent. The relatively slow growth is expected, given the magnitude of the destruction in production capacity. In agriculture, permanent crops, notably coconuts, were felled. Damage to agricultural output also disrupted supply chains, which may partly explain why food manufacturing output also declined. The tourism and insurance industries likewise slowed down in the first quarter as they are still reeling from the impact of natural calamities last year. Apart from the disasters, prudential lending measures imposed beginnings in the previous quarter to prevent the formation of “real estate bubbles” have also contributed to the slowdown. Private construction was particularly affected by such measures. Nevertheless, Information Technology-Business Process Management (IT-BPM) and the export-oriented manufacturing remained resilient. Post-disaster recovery and reconstruction efforts have also induced growth in logistics, transport, and social work. Growth drivers Overall, on the supply side, the services and industry sectors primarily drove the growth with a contribution of 3.8 and 1.8 percentage points (ppts), respectively, to real GDP growth. Manufacturing remained as the main driver of growth for the industry sector, followed by mining and quarrying. However, agriculture is yet to recover from the devastating effects of last year’s typhoons. All subsectors posted lackluster growth, except forestry,…
