II. Executive Summary
This report provides an evaluation of the use of eBooks compared to point of sale textbooks with in the college market. Our methods of analysis include researching current trends and forecasting of future usage trends of eBooks. From our analysis we found that eBooks will continue to gain popularity and dominate the market within 7 years. Based on our findings it is recommended for colleges to make the move towards the offering of eBooks over textbooks as demand will support this decision. It is understood that there will be a decreasing demand for textbooks and this will benefit colleges’ need to stock a large inventory of textbooks. EBooks are able to offer users an interactive experience creating a new way to learn and are also changing the college student’s textbook experience entirely. Waiting in line at the bookstore or waiting for your online textbook order to arrive is becoming a thing of the past. Students now have a wealth of information at their fingertips and they are taking full advantage of this technology. III. Introduction

The future of education is changing as technology is rapidly advancing the way we are able to obtain information.  According to MobiThinking, the global mobile statistic of 2012 shows how Mobile-broadband subscriptions have grown 45 percent annually over the last four years (Global Mobile Statistics 2012). Consumers have a higher demand than ever with how fast they want to be able to have something, and the internet has greatly assisted with this. Being able to download apps in the palm of your hand with access to internet allows consumers to acquire information with ease. EBooks are provided by organizations such as Amazon Kindle Store, Sony Reader Store, Apple iBooks Store, Barnes and Noble, Chegg, and some libraries also provide versions. EBooks can also be accessed on any tablet, iPad, iPhone, Mac, or PC that has the capabilities for a consumer to view text. These devices allow for interactive highlighting, note taking, searching, and allow users to ask a question and/or look up and define a word. By the late 1990s, viral marketers had also discovered the eBook. The concept of free books, cheap to produce and free to distribute, being used to support sales was irresistible. Within 10 years, eBooks distributed by marketers had become common and were even expected in some niche industries. However, since eBooks were such a small part of the market, few were sold. The first successful e-reader was the Sony Reader. This e-reader used electronic paper display for ease on the eyes, and came with 100 free classic eBooks. Amazon invented the Kindle as a direct and improved competitor to the Sony Reader. Released in 2007, the Kindle could not only read eBooks, it accepted orders for new ones and instantly downloaded the book to the reader. Many textbooks and reference materials are now available on eBooks, which allows students to study anywhere they like, not just in libraries.
