Dear Mr. Hill:
As a valued customer of our company, we are delighted that you have accepted our business proposal to design and install energy-efficient heating, cooling, and insulation systems in your school. At EBG our customer is the most important thing and we work hard to fulfill each and every client’s needs.
We understand you want to change the location of a venting apparatus for the overall campus design. As you know, our systems are custom-designed and involve a variety of sub-contractors. Therefore, changes cannot be made to the design after the date specified in the contract. Moreover this change would have added about $5000 to the overall cost of the project. I recently spoke with Chris Keller about your request and he brought another issue to my attention. Apparently there is a zoning restriction with this kind of venting location. The restriction is not well enforced and a lot of businesses violate it, but EGB has a policy against violating zoning restrictions. For all these reason the company cannot make the changes you requested at this time.

Energy and the environment are likely to be critical growth markets for Booz Allen Hamilton, moving forward; indeed, we have already begun to develop a “greening” service offering. But are we setting a good example with our own practices in Booz Allen facilities? On our McLean campus, the Hamilton building is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified; however, the James building does not use recyclable products in its kitchen spaces. Additionally, communications regarding Booz Allen’s “green” initiatives are limited, both internally and externally. We are likely to face challenges selling our clients on environmentally responsible practices if we are not ourselves forward-looking. With 20,000 employees in 80 offices, Booz Allen Hamilton has much to gain from focusing its attention on its own enormous environmental footprint.…

    AHU System

The AHU and air distribution layout design for Block H is determined form cooling load calculation. There are several parameters and assumptions taken into account during the calculation. One of the assumption made is that the building has just been refurbish so air infiltration is minimize. The calculation part consists of the external load, internal load, total cooling load, duct sizing, piping sizing and AHU specifications. Since it will be used for commercial building, the system comprises of air-conditioning all the rooms in the whole building block except for the toilet which will use mechanical ventilation. Air Handling Unit (AHU) will be placed in a small room at the end of the block near the toilet. This is to maximize the utilization of space for functional usage rather than to take up the space for AHU system. It will also be easier in terms of maintenance wise since it is at the far end of the building and not enclosed between the rooms. Since the AHU system is separated from the room it make it more comfortable for the occupants because AHU will release heat and also noise due to vibration of equipment and auxiliaries. The system is also slightly overdesigned to make it easier for future expansion to ensure sustainability. Furthermore, since the system will degrade by time in terms of its performance and efficiency it is best to slightly overdesigned it.…
