A few of things helped in the spread of Christianity, including the decision of the Apostle Paul to spread Christianity beyond the Jewish communities of Palestine into the Greco-Roman world, and when the Emperor Constantine accepted Christianity and became its patron at the beginning of the fourth century (Farber). In its origin Christianity is connected with Judaism, the parent religion, and to incorporate its Jewish heritage, early Christianity viewed its history as a typology. Early Christian art is clearly indebted to Classical and Hellenistic precedents, but it includes many symbols designed to indicate the Christian content of the image (Guisepi).
