Dysfunctional families start somewhere.
Domestic violence has been receiving a lot of media over this past year (Robison). The media has shown how celebrities such as star football players and fame crazed people in the music industry indulge in violent behavior towards others. The consequences are rarely as harsh as they should be, community service after rearranging your partners entire face, Getting suspended from games after brutally beating your spouse. Media portrays the African American males as the most violent race. Even though within a house hold domestic violence can stem from other directions. Domestic violence is but may not be the most harmful thing taking place in one’s family. Domestic violence is only one sign of a dysfunctional household. There are signs of a dysfunctional household mostly emulated through the child’s behavior. My often mother says “As a teacher I can always tell when one of her kids are having issues at home. They either act out with other students and teachers, timid and astringed from their peers, or they express what’s going on through the artwork they make.” Children imitate what’s in their daily surroundings (Bethann). If children are presented with constant violent behavior to others I believe that the with naturally be rough with others and have irregular violent behavior. Yet those children that are victims of domestic violence seem as if they are more vulnerable and timid towards people who mirror the victim’s attacker. Most believe that domestic violence only affects the husbands and their wives but in reality the entire house hold is affected in some way. Domestic abuse also known as Intimate Partners Violence is the systematic suffocation of another person’s spirit (Holly). This means that one person holds the power by using physical, emotional, spiritual, financial and sexual abuse to force the victim into submission. Abusers can be male or female.
