Dynamic Character In Fahrenheit 451
A dynamic character shows a significant change in thinking or behavior throughout the story and usually as a result of the action of the story. There are many characters in the novel “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury, that are dynamic, but Guy Montag is by far the most significant. In addition, by the first chapter drastic changes are made with his character. To begin, Guy Montag is the main character in “Fahrenheit 451”. Montag works as a fireman, but being a fireman is not what it used to be. Instead of putting out fires, firemen start them, especially to books. Since they live in a futuristic time period, a lot of views have changed when it comes to literature. In this new society, books are illegal because they give people who read them a lot more

For the first time in a while, Montag realizes and accepts that he isn’t happy with his relationship or his job. While this is occurring, Clarisse also asks questions about society and what it used to be like. Montag is especially affected when Clarisse talks about how firemen used to put out fires instead of starting them. She asks questions about education and how if you don’t ask questions it’s “like a lot of funnels and a lot of water poured down the spout and out the bottom (page 30).” This tells us that society teaches kids so much information at once that it goes through on ear and out the other. Despite her curiosity, she is presumed as antisocial or not able to fit in when actually, other kids aren’t appreciating Clarisse’s knowledge. Montag is changed by this quality because you see him questioning society and how books shouldn’t be illegal by collecting literature from the houses that he burns. This quality from Clarisse is rubbing off on Montag drastically. Finally, the last way that Clarisse changes Montag is through thinking and reflecting.
