The teaching of grammar as a system should be restricted to elective classes and units with an emphasis on inquiry and discovery, 2. Reading should be used to aid students in their acquisition and practice of grammatical constructions and structures, 3. Grammar instruction should highlight examples and de-emphasize terminology, 4. Production of effective sentences should supersede analysis, 5. Effective punctuation as reflected in professional writing should be taught rather than the “correct” punctuation as prescribed in handbooks, 6. Questions of usage should…

It is hard to blame just one person for the tragic outcome of Shakespeare’s play ‘Macbeth’. We could blame the witches but we could also blame Lady Macbeth or even Macbeth. Macbeth was with his friend (Banquo), when he met three witches that were telling him his destiny. They told him that he was next in line for the throne but they also told Banquo that his kids would take over the throne. Macbeth then realised that he deserve to become king because he was the one going to war and King Duncan didn’t deserve to have the throne (he didn’t fight with his men, he didn’t deserve to be their leader). He then took charge in the situation and did something about it. He became King through killing the people that were in his way of being king forever. His wife, Lady Macbeth took a major part in the role of killing the people and she was encouraging Macbeth to make these crimes. Throughout the play Shakespeare has used dialogue, character construction, construction of the plot and imagery to show who’s to blame for the tragic outcome of Shakespeare’s plays ‘Macbeth’.…

The academic community has long debated the need to teach grammar skills and its benefits to students. Unfortunately; college students are graduating every day without the simple basic knowledge of sentence structure, spelling or grammar (College Boad, The National Commission on Writing for America 's Families, Schools, and Colleges, 2004). Traditionally, two different approaches have been used. In the 60’s, a “rule-based”, approach which used repetitive drills and sentence diagramming was employed. This theory was proven ineffective by Weaver in 1996 (Weaver, 1996), and a “context-based”, theory was adopted,…

Another plus was that the Articles made provisions to allow equal voting in Congress for each state and the understanding that most decisions were to be made by majority vote. However, the states despised even "moderate" government involvement in their affairs and especially with government taxation. This was a major cause of inflation, which ultimately consumed the nation. The articles also did not give the government the power to enforce laws thus relying on the voluntary compliance by the states. But in order to change the Articles all of the representatives had to be in agreement. The negations of the Articles soon grew more evident and although some states did not want things to change it became evident that change was needed and inevitable.…

When Alexander was going towards Nysa, the people of Nysa sent out men: ‘o king, the people of Nysa want to remain free. Therefore save the independence of the people because of Dionysus. For the god was the founder of Nysa. For when he took victory over the Indians, he founded Nysa in order to leave a monument of the victory for future generations. In the same way you yourself also founded both the farthest Alexandria and another Alexandria in the land of the Egyptians, and many others: you have already founded some, in due course you will found others. We have always had freedom in Nysa, governing in order because of the independence. There is also a certain piece of evidence of Dionysus founding Nysa: for ivy does not flourish elsewhere in the land of the Indians but only here.’ Therefore having heard the words of the men Alexander ordered the ruler of Nysa to send four hundred of his best men as soldiers. But the ruler said, ‘We can’t govern Nysa in order if very many of the best soldiers are away. Therefore lead away instead of the four hundred best soldiers twice as many of the worst soldiers. Therefore in this way having returned you will find Nysa being in the same order.’…

If all of us were as strong as Superman, we probably wouldn’t have to worry about preventing injuries. We could leap from rooftops, run through fire, bend steel rods, and halt speeding automobiles with a screech without anyone ever saying, “Don’t try this at home.” Unfortunately, we are humans, and for us, trying such feats will result in fatal injuries.…
