I can assure you neither of us (Adam and Jeremy) condone or participate in the use of hateful and discriminatory language. While the hallway is a common area, the whiteboard I chose to place on the exterior of our door is private property, the desecration of that property infringes on my rights as a resident of Hutch. I commend the Hutch hall team for using their discretion in order to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all residents, but Adam and I are not guilty of harming that environment, that guilt should be placed on the shoulders of the nameless vandal. We are committed to using the whiteboard for respectful communication only, and will more closely monitor the content which it displays. Unfortunately, Adam and I are busy…

his article by Patricia Hill Collins is one of the many which she has written. It focuses on Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals & Transgenderd people which she refers to as LGBT. She states how American historians point to the signifigance of sexuality to belong to slavery (pg-235). She categorizes racism and heterosexism as the prison and the closet. One would agree on this metaphor because even though minorities have come a long way since our earlier history, racism still exists in our community. The term prison is used as a form of feeling isolated from society and those who have racism toward them would feel trapped within themselves so the word suits. The word “closet” is self explanatory as the term of having “skeletons in the closet“. If one…

It can be said that society has always been quite judgmental, and at times misguided when it comes to women. The negative perceptions that society has towards females are often times directly related toward her actions. What a female does seems to degrade her identity and capabilities in the eyes of some men. In the poems “The Lady’s Dressing Room” and The essay “A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Swift, we can see both authors use of tone, form and style to develop their works. These poems are mainly driven by men’s attitudes towards women. A man’s perceived opinion about women can negatively shape society’s views and perceptions of them.…
