Dto Course
The current course curriculum that is being taught to DTO-assigned officers is a heavy concentration of strategic-computer based systems. The DTO course covers in-depth TPFDD analysis, instillation deployment, mobility warrant officers’ roles and responsibilities, Single Mobility System (SMS), and completion of the JOPES Action Officer Course. The vast majority of this can be tracked by either the senior transportation non-commissioned officers or mobility warrant officer. DTO’s need to be able to convey the importance of this critical data to their respective commands, but it is more closely aligned with a deployment to a mature theater of operation. The U.S. Army is currently shifting its deployment focus towards an expeditionary mind set. Therefore, I feel that in a decisive action the emphases should be directed towards movement control.

During the MDMP process the following items need to be addressed: route synchronization, developing an integrated movement program, and fully understanding the transportation movement release and movement tables. A heavy brigade combat team, in a column formation, will span a highway length of roughly 40 miles from its lead element to the trail vehicle. Critical movement of resupplies must be considered and managed intensely; while less critical items are rerouted, delayed, or shifted. Movement boards are designed to de-conflict the various modes of transportation for the resupply of subordinate units. Doctrine provides the fundamental concept as to how to solve a problem set. However, it would be more beneficial to show how a movement board is actually conducted in a non-threatening environment such as CGSC. In the absence of a movement control battalion, accomplishing all of the nuances that encompass a movement board is extremely changeling for a five person DTO

    Course of action analysis, otherwise known as war-gaming, focuses on the vision of the operation in reference to strengths and weaknesses of the force. It also focuses heavily on civilians and the capabilities of the enemy, possible media attacks, and modifications to the COAs.
