We had made it clear to each other that he would not go unavenged. We had enough passion to fight the world if we felt absolutely necessary and we went on through what seemed like a war that weekend. Through blood, sweat, and injury, we battled for that title. The championship match came in our grasps and tensions were high for the entire game since we didn't only want to win for us, but for our coach who had recently resigned. After a game full of devastating hits and elaborate set plays, we lost after an undefeated run of 5-0-0, but we fought to the death and left it all out on the field. No regret in our heads would ever go opposite the way we played in that title match because Coach Day had educated us all that no matter how exceptionally skilled at something you believe you are, you will never progress without putting your entire willpower to the task. Without passion, you fight for nothing. Passion is what will drive you through every hill and valley of your life. From that day onward, all I have done has been for a reason and I have strong-armed my way through thick and thin to be successful in my life and I plan to extend this through my entire college career and lifetime. I will at no time give up on what I believe is crucial, similar to being successful in that tournament for my…
When individuals across the United states think about the most extravagant, famous, and finest sport in today’s society what sport makes the cut and comes to mind? In today’s America, the most beloved sport is American football. Across the United States, football is known through live broadcasting, news, well known medias, the renowned super bowl, college sporting events, and the National Football League (NFL), and a tad more. Over the course of time things started and have drastically gotten different. In the period of the 1920’s the standout sport wasn’t football, but baseball. The extravagant sport, football, was not admired once upon a time. The sport of baseball went through a tenacious and trying time during the 1920s period, which assisted it in becoming the most beloved and known sport by every race of people imaginable. Even Though the sport of baseball was the sport to partake in and do, there were numerous sports that were bold too. "The 1920's was a transition period for many sports. It wasn't anything like today's athlete's making big money, using steroids, or promoting a media fast diet." (The Sport Era). During the period of the 1920s, the black leagues and other fine sports assisted in impacting a…
Yes, I absolutely agree a football team should permanently remove a player accused of assault. Assault is a serious crime in America, and is not looked lightly upon. Although for some reason, Americans want to turn their heads away from a star athlete being accused for this horrible crime. My reasons for agreeing to remove a player are: football is glorified in America, assault is a horrible crime, and American’s morals are going out the window.…
The game of hockey originated in Canada as far back as 1875, and has become one of the worlds most popular sports. The sport is primarily played on ice and involves players using sticks to project a puck into the opposing teams goal net. Typically being more popular in the north due to cold weather, hockey is actually popular all over the world and is loved by millions of people. Being a fantastic and entertaining game, hockey unfortunately holds a reputation of being a violent sport and can be broken down into three categories: The fans, the players, and the nature of the game.…
The score was 28-26 as one of Gaston’s best shooters approached the line, she was set to take two foul shots. She was a stoutly young girl, who had the slight resemblance of a boy. It was a wonder she was one of their best free-throw shooters when her shot form looked like a cross between a flying squirrel taking flight, and a swimmer swimming. The away team’s bench sounded off a mighty cheer for the girl, then the ref tossed her the ball and all fell silent, so silent that you could hear the girl’s nervous heartbeat flutter from the pressure as she began her shooting ritual. “toom toom toom” echoed the three dribbles prior to her shot, she lined up executed her radical shotform and “swshhhh” sounded the first shot as it sank into the net, suddenly the crowd erupted with cheers for the away team, amongst the chaos you could hear the few exasperated moans and sighs of the fans of the home team. As the girl lines up for her next shot like clockwork she begins her ritual again, then she releases however this time it hits the side of the rim and bounces once, twice, thrice, then swish sounding “BUUMM, BOOM, SWISH” and for the second time in minutes the fans of Gaston erupted into a joyous roar of approval, suddenly the girl's shoulders lifted and you could tell her stress eased, as the score turned 28-28. The ball then belonged to city as they were dribbling down coach Nichole was signaling for a timeout and her pleas were not heard, she began louder, louder, then she went onto the court and signaled in their face and signaled for a time. The ref immediately brought his hands up to the shape of a T simultaneously blowing his whistle, in the notion of…
The first day of the two day tournament me and my team came firing out of the gates. Beating the first two teams of the scores of 12 to zero, and following that up with and 8-0 victory. as they day progressed we had one more game. Everyone a little…
It’s the last game and we are warming up for the game. We were feeling super confident because we had just won the game before that. But as we see the other team we lost all of our confidence because they were all like 6’3 or taller. After warmups coach told us who was pitching and he said me. I was like what the heck I’m gonna get killed by these monsters. I was a squirmy as a warm cause I was excited to prove myself. As I’m warming up to pitch on the mound I was thinking of what pitches I was gonna throw. When the ump said batter up I knew that I was gonna have to pitch the ball low in the strike zone. The first pitch in the game I accidentally left the ball up and the kid whacked to the fence in the air. That was as fast as race cars start.…
I have experienced many failures in my life but one stuck out to me more than others. I have wrestled since I was 8 years old. Through all my matches I have wrestled in my life, something hit me. My sophomore year I worked really hard to make it to the state tournament. Going into the sectional tournament, my record was 19-3. I had a by the first round which put me in the semi-finals. After winning my semi-finals match 12-4, that put me in the finals against a kid I wrestled 3 times before this. He pinned me the first time we wrestled and the next 2 times we wrestled I pinned him. Going into this match I had a lot of confidence because I knew I could win. I underestimated the want he had to win. He surprised me and came out strong. My sectional…

Diary of a Madman, published in 1918, was written by Lu Xun, pen name of Zhou Shuren, who was considered the most important Chinese Modernist writer. The Daydreams of a Drunk Woman, was published in 1960 with a collection of other short stories called Family Ties, written by Clarice Lispector, who went to law-school, and worked as a journalist before becoming a full-time writer. Both of these writers portray a rather dark story, one that focuses on a central character who’s view on the society around them is one where they seem to be the victim, and everyone seems to be out to get them. While Lispector uses heterodiegetic and Xun use autodiegetic narration as the base for their stories, they both share a focus on an individual character, but…
Ever since day one of the sport, that's how I referred to the kickball. It never changed. I have been terrified of this faded red ball coming anywhere near my face, so I never bothered to run for a catch, or even really try. That's probably why I was never any good at sports. I was okay at tennis, and maybe even moderately good at cross country. But anything that involved me catching a ball, you might as well already say I lost.…
I was cocky going into the match, because I had played and beaten Jacob, my opponent, beforehand. I assumed that the skinny, lanky sophomore was nothing more than a pushover that I could dispatch easily. The match started out with my serve, another boost to my confidence, and progressed smoothly as I quickly won the first game. But I quickly realized that Jacob would not go down so easily. He sprinted, lunged, and chased after every single ball no matter what speed or power I put on each shot. He patiently persisted, meticulously striking each shot to be not fast but instead consistent- my biggest weakness. I began to panic. I started to hit balls harder, causing me to make more mistakes, and taking more risks in order to end the grueling rallies that ran me dry. I tried everything that I could think…
I was on the court in the hot sunny day. Running around, hitting balls, it was the Chang Championship final round in Chiang Rai. I was playing against an opponent who was actively playing to become a champion. I could see it in his eyes and wouldn’t wonder why he played that well. I was also extremely nervous that me playing my standard wouldn’t equal the opponent. Still I’ve tried as hard as possible to keep my standard of playing going. It was a very tensed game at the beginning of first set the score was 4-4. It was my turn to serve and I was confident that I would lead him a game. I finally won the game it was fast but not easy at all, for each shots we have to rally to 10 strokes and the game was very exciting. The crowd clapped and cheered with courage. We were resting on the courtside for the court switch, it was extremely hot and the water just tasted as a dream. After a rest for 1 minute it was now his turn to serve. He paused for a moment gaining his focus and started the game. It was a close on which he was leading me 40-0 and I managed to make my comeback to 40-40 and won the game by 6-4. I was very happy and feeling energetic though I spent lots of energy on that set. Finally the second set I was well prepared for an attack from the opponent but couldn’t manage to keep the points on my side. His game was different from last time and I didn’t know what to do. After points go by, I still couldn’t figure out how to play against his strategies. The more I tried the more I used up my energy and I felt horrible and weary. He leaded me by 0-5; just one more game and I would lose the set. Suddenly I heard my mum telling me from the courtside that I did well, you’ve got nothing to lose. After that sudden moment I felt cheerful and started cheering myself up with courage of winning. It was tiring and I still made it point by point of hard work for each shots, finally it’s my match point after 0-5 to 6-5. All the wind just changed…
