Drum Major Application Essay
I remember the moment that I realized I would like to be a part of the North Shore Band leader. It was my freshman year, the second week of summer band. I had ate something terrible that caused me to be sick. As I was on the side the drum majors seemed to very caring and sympathetic of my situation. That was the moment that I realized that I want to be one of those kind caring people. I am the best candidate for the job because I am a very accepting and open person to criticism. I am a very persistent and honest person. I can accept the fact that I am not the best musician but that doesn’t stop me from working harder and accepting the most difficult of challenges. I have been in band since 6th grade. I’ve always had a passion for music. …show more content…
Not only do I manage to complete all my work but my standardized test scores prove that I have the ability to reach my goals and excel at anything I set my mind to. I am the best candidate because I will never give up. I will strive towards success and never let anything drag me down. I show the potential to be an excellent drum major in my ability to keep in time and I am a great leader. Anytime I am in a group presentation everyone looks up to me to be able to lead our group to success. I know that becoming a leader of our band doesn’t mean that I am above everyone else. I am just an average student but I have what not anyone has: I know when to make the right choices when necessary, I am very bold and not one to be intimidated, and I have such a passion for reaching greatness and ensuring that I share this with everyone around me. In conclusion I am the best candidate for the job because I show respect for myself and others. I am a great leader because I am just an average person wherever I am but I am have discipline to do and say what is right. As Ronald Reagan once said,” if you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.” I can inspire people in the band and hope to achieve greatness with everyone in it. It would be an honor to begin this journey as a leader so when can I

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

I was a part of the Newnan High School Marching Band my tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade year. It was a great experience. The Newnan High School Band became like a second family, and the band room was my home away from home. As it got closer to my senior year, I started wondering who was going to get the title of clarinet section leader my last year of marching band. I felt like I would be the one for the job. When they finally informed us that leadership applications were available, I was excited to get my application. I wrote an essay and prepared for my interview. I knew I had the qualities they were expecting in a section leader. I was kind to others, hardworking, friendly, helpful, understanding, and approachable. I anxiously anticipated…

One will understand that they must be patient with their fellow peers, for the reason that some people might struggle with marching, or memorize their music slower than others. One must learn that respect is not given, but earned. Just because a drum major has more authority than a regular ole’ trombone player, does not mean they will receive respect from that trombone player right away. One will gain integrity; being a drum major requires an individual to work with fellow band members and treat everyone fairly while keeping in mind moral virtues. And last but not least, most importantly, one must learn how to roll with the punches. Whether the band gets off tempo during show, somebody loses their drill, the metronome dies and needs new batteries right at that moment, or even when the director doesn’t have a key to the band tower and needs somebody to run inside and get one, learning how to handle tough situations in a orderly manner is essential. A drum major is someone the band considers a role model, and if they are stressed out, or blowing each circumstance out of proportion, they will lose respect from their peers. That individual will not be considered principled, but amoral.…

To explain where my inspiration for being drum major came from, I have to tell a story. I told this story in short during my section leader audition, but it is an honest reason (amongst multiple) I am so interested in being a drum major today. It goes back to my sixth grade, when I met Joshua Parmley. Josh was immediately friendly, and it was clear that he had leader-like qualities, as it…

To me, band is a lot more than just a hobby or a class, band is who I am and has been the biggest influence on my character as I have gone through school. Since fifth grade, band has always been there and for a while, it was the only thing I had. When I was in eighth grade, I was extremely shy and didn’t really seem to fit in anywhere, but when I joined Patriots that all changed. Patriots gave me the chance to meet some of my best friends and played a crucial role in coming out of my shell. Through my years in the band program, I have learned how to be a much more confident and outgoing person and because of the constant support that band provided, I was able to go out of my comfort zone and join new activities such as cross-country and Nordic…

Immediately wanting to join the band, I knew the only obstacle in my way would be convincing my parents. After all, neither one of them is musical in any way. At dinner that night, it was obvious that they were skeptical and not too keen on the idea of hearing the banging of a drum set in their home, but they ultimately gave me the chance to pursue this new-found passion. At that time, none of us could have imagined the impact that this decision would have on my life moving forward.…

My name is Kaleigh Gonzales I’m a 15 year old sophomore and I’m running for the 2014-2015 officer position of reporter for Armwood High Schools FFA Chapter. I feel I should be selected for this position because not only am I a people person but I am also extremely organized. I think this would make me be able to effectively and efficiently get the Armwood FFA’s chapter name known to the public. I would also try to do this by doing any and all public service projects we can get our hands on, then publishing our successes. I believe that to make a difference you have to be known and respected by the community around you. In the past three years I have served as Vice President for Burnett Middle School for two terms and Treasurer for Armwood high school for one term. In this time I’ve competed many events including forestry, land judging, vet assisting, OCC, creed speaking, and extemporaneous public speaking. By doing this I’ve gained lots of experience and love in our great organization. I believe to be this year’s reporter I have to not only work on our clubs public media aspects but also work hard in competitions to win and better our chapters’ reputation. If I were to describe the technique in which I lead I would have to say that I plan , I tell others my plan , and then I depend on my team to help me. They tell me where they specialize in and what they want to do for me, and we work form there. I try to let people do what makes them happy while still helping me. I can make a personal promise that I will always work my hardest to make FFA my top priority, a position like this requires my full attention. My other activity I engage in is that I am a First sergeant of alpha company in JROTC, this means I am the second in command of one of three company’s in our schools only JROTC battalion. I promise that my responsibilities there will not interfere with my responsibilities regarding FFA. Some activities I want to do this year are competitions like OCC and…

The band has been an integral part of my life since I joined back in 7th grade. I’ve had several hobbies over the years, but band is one of the few activities that have sparked my interest. It has created an environment where my strengths can positively shine. Without band I’d have a much less impressive student life. The band program has given me most of the friends that I have today, and that is something I couldn’t replace. The band is by far the most important aspect of my high school career, and I really feel that it is a highly positive stepping stone in my life.…
