Driving Persuasive Speech
"Jesse, slow down!" and "Um, why is TJ's phone still in your car, Jesse?" are some of the many phrases I heard all weekend long. Many late night car rides occurred during my weekend, but this one in particular was by far the most memorable. While riding through the back roads of Nettleton, Mississippi, out of boredom, Jesse and I had to pick up TJ, her boyfriend, from seeing his grandmother in the hospital. Before I get into anymore details, I should probably go into informing you how bad of a driver Jesse is. She defiantly had a need for speed and is constantly trying to arrive at her destination as soon as she can. Since I have informed you about her lead foot and her inpatient driving skills, I'll get back to describing my weekend. Driving

About an hour and a half into our drive we hit a little bit of traffic. Lauren’s mom looked to be in a rush. She became a little impatient and weaved around the other cars. Eventually, we navigated around the large cluster of cars that were causing the traffic. We were traveling about 65-70 in the right lane. There was a Jeep diagonally behind us in the left lane. Laurens mom wanted to around the car that…

A little over a year ago I was a senior in high school, leaving school with the weekend ahead of me, ready to unwind, and enjoy the night with my friends. On my trip home my mother called me and asked if I could go out of my way to pick my sister up from school; reluctantly, I tell her that I will. Before that call my friends and I had established that I would be driving us to the senior class tailgate before the football game that night. Wanting to get to the tailgate faster, I begin to force my foot on the gas pedal a little more, without thinking about the consequences of my risk. Suddenly, I look back in my rear view mirror and see the dreaded red, blue, and white lights flashing. I look down at my speedometer and realize…

Being over 40 years of age doesn't mean you automatically become out of shape. This all too acceptable in our nation. Countless times have I heard the comments "I'm too old to get in shape" or "I'm too old to have a flat stomach". Most of my clients, when they first come to me, can't look down and see their feet. I usually ask them "What happened? Why did you let yourself get out of shape?" The responses I receive vary but the general consensus is that life took over. I interpret this as working long hours, raising kids, eating poorly and not making time to exercise. I'm grateful they have reached a point where they are fed up with the way they feel, look and have decided that enough is enough. I've been a personal trainer for 8 yrs and I am 41 yrs old.…

I have been driving for two years now, and it didn't take me long to realize that when I’m behind the wheel I hold a great deal of responsibility. Especially now that I am now able to drive others, once they hop into my car they're now my responsibility. I am responsible for returning them home safely, which takes your full attention focused on the road because you never know what will be in the way. Just recently I was driving my sister to her friend’s house, coming around a turn there was a deer standing broadside in the road. Lucky for me I saw the deer in time to come to a complete stop before it ran off into the woods. It made me think, if I hadn't slow down to take the corner because it was at night and the road was wet, I may well have hit the deer and who knows what would have happened to my sister and…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…
