A problem that I think needs to be solved is traffic lights causing the back up of traffic. Traffic lights cause a delay in traffic and cause for traffic back up. It causes everyone to be late when there is no need for it. From personal experience I have been late of several occasions due to backed up traffic because of traffic lights. There are certain spots where traffic lights are not needed and they are only backing up traffic more than needed. Traffic lights turn red even when there is no traffic at the other end of the light. Traffic lights also cause a lot of accidents, such as someone running a red light, etc.…
Driving is inherently dangerous, especially when sharing the road with semi trucks. While you can mitigate this danger by increasing your following distance behind these big rigs, passing one on a multilane road forces you to drive within a few feet of it. Likewise, only a few feet separate you from oncoming trucks on a two lane road. Because you can't entirely avoid these situations, you have to trust that the truck doesn't lose control or otherwise harm you.…
An under appreciated driving hazard is the lack of sleep. In fact, many people are cavalier about driving while fatigued. Although driving under the influence of alcohol carries much social stigma, the same can't be said of driving when tired. Yet both forms of impairment are equally dangerous and cause too many fatalities on our roads and highways.…
This information will affect me as a drive now and in the future by allowing me to realize that there are many things that you need to prepare you for driving safely. This was created by, the French Safety Board in order to make people stop, and think about the consequences speeding brings. This image shows why we should be more careful driving, because it not only damages cars, but people too.…
Drivers can be unpredictable and can change lanes at a blink of the eye with lack of using some sort of signal before doing so. Even with a signal, lane changes made by cars can happen very quickly and unexpectedly. Drivers are often times unable to see a relatively small motorcycle trying to shorten their commute by weaving through traffic. Motorcyclists are becoming too comfortable driving in between cars at high speeds, or simply, at much higher speeds than the surrounding cars around them. Motorcyclists are informed by word of mouth, that if they are to lane change, to do so in the furthermost left lanes, rather than on the right.…

The very first theory that came to my mind regarding the driving routes observation was a Broadbent Filter Model Theory. This is one of the models of selective attention, the attention used to focus on incoming stimuli. The information is processed and attended only after it is passed on through a selective filter into a limited-capacity channel. While I was driving, in the case of both normal and altered routes, I have experienced the selective attention emphasized by this theory. In other words, while I was driving my attention was tuned to the relevant stimuli, such as focusing on the passing cars, viewing the road signals, and concentrating on the steering wheel.…
In today’s world people are doing everything under the sun when it comes to driving. Things are different now than it was ten years go. Young people are most likely to get distracted than older people while driving. Driving down high way I see people either texting, eating, or playing.…
If your child was walking home from school you would want a piece of mind to no they are safe. If it wasn’t a speed limit law a lot of children and pets would be in danger. Image If you where a senior citizen walking your dam and an idiot speed past, you wouldn’t like that not even a little. You have to think of others when you drive.…
Driving is supposed to be an experience that is enjoyable and safe. It’s not supposed to be one where the operator of the car is doing everything in the car but paying attention to the road.…
“Distracted drivers?” The thoughts of what appear in my mind when I hear the words “distracted drivers” is not of a good thought but that of a horrible situation to be in. Many drivers in today’s society have caused many road accidents due to their incapability of watching the road before them because they are distracted. There are many different reasons why drivers could be distracted, for example: cellphones, other accompanied people in the vehicle, intoxicated driving, or simply being distracted by outside objects.…

If a driver's eyes are not on the road then they are completely unaware of what is around them. This not only endangers the driver, but other drivers and pedestrians as well. "About half a million injuries are caused by distracted drivers every year" (Merchant, 2012). "Deborah Drewniak, 52, was walking her dog one night in Colchester when she was hit by a car" (McGilvery, 2011).…
